I had planned on a cool 3-D wrap around flame and adhesive checkerboard with "inverted color mustang emblem" cut and grafted in to cover these enclosures I built for my friends Mustang. He stopped by while I was just starting the flames and implied he'd like them carpeted - having no way of seeing my vision I scrapped my plans. I had not built the boxes with routed seams for carpet so I cut 2 front panels and made appropriate router cuts so I could at least have nice carpet seams tucked in the front. Rather than covering the 2 new panels with carpet I tried my hand at some vinyl covering. It was a lot of extra work to change plans mid-stream but the "black on black" turned out very clean, sexy even. This is my first attempt with carpet and vinyl- and my new router for that matter. I cut a 2 ohm label out of ABS plastic and covered polished aluminum to wrap the power terminals to overlap the carpet where I had no way to make a clean tuck on the side, turned out OK too. Next time I'll plan ahead and it will all be easier but I'm happy with my first effort.
