Good choice on the dino. I have big painting hanging over my fireplace depicting a T -Rex eating a smaller dino. I get compliments on it all the time. Really, everyone loves dinos.

You simply can't go wrong with any dino from the Cretaceous period IMO. I would, however, tell my tattoo artist that I am not interested in anything from the Triassic period. Those are for fegs.

Sorry, but I gotta be honest. Leave the outline and find a better artist to do the shading. There's no gradients here at all. The shading in the dinosaurs look just like the shading in the mountain looks just like the shading in the tree. In a year or two, you wont be able to tell what it is at all.

Looks to me like all he did is make a bunch of lines and shade off those lines exactly the same way for each line. It's a cool concept, and has potential to be an awesome tattoo, but the shading kills it for me.

A good tattoo should look just as good 5 years later. Honestly, I think in 5 years, you'll be disappointed with this.

Look at the shading work on this dinosaur tattoo. You'll see the difference quickly.

How much did that work run you, if you don't mind me asking?

outline was 100. yesterdays session was 150, next session should be the same or less. so about 400 when it's all done minus tips.

shading

i don't like photo-realistic tattoo's otherwise i'd be having him do it in that style. the style i sketched it out in, is something you'd find in a kids book which is exactly what i was going for, and what i based all my first sketches off of. i see the point you're trying to make, it just does not apply to my tattoo.
