Put the not spam up there so people wouldnt think this is another spam thread about converting files we get here every night haha

anyways.

Im trying to convert FLAC files into WMA ( from what I'm reading it seems its better than MP3, let me know if I'm wrong). Now I'm trying to keep the quality the same as in the FLAC files. I'm using SWITCH and it has encoder options (default is 128kpbs, 44khz, 2 channel, 16 bit CBR) is that good, theres about 100 different options. my HU has 24bit D/A converter (dont know if that applies to this but i figured id throw it out there)

my HU plays wma, mp3, aac which should i go with to keep the best quality from the flac file as possible and what setting should i use?

Someone ban this spambot.
4k posts and a member for years and you think im a spam bot??? seriously? did you bother to read my post? im asking a question, not trying to get you to buy software like the actual spambots

I would choose 320kbps if you have the option and if your not worried about file size.
all im worried about is not losing any quality. see my HU has a USB that takes thumbdrives so all my music now is going to be on that. i downloaded some music that sounds great, and some that doesnt. all 256kbps and higher. then i started reading about compression and what not and realized the ones that sound bad are probably poorly ripped..... so now im downloading lossless files and seeing how i can prevent from any sq loss when converting to mp3, aac, or wma. trying to find out which is best.

Honestly, you most likely will notice no difference at all.

As long as you have a quality rip (lossless), you can convert to something like 320kbps mp3 and it will still sound really good.

look here for some info comparing mp3, aac, and wma

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mobile-music,489-7.html

i am currently seeking a deck that can read aac on a usb device, but nothing reads them, only mp3 (i haven't tried wma, so i can't offer any input there) using even reasonably high quality speakers, you can hear a difference in the high frequency reproduction of aac compared to mp3 and wma. will you notice in your car... that's debatable.

going by the tomshardware charts, i would pick mp3 over wma because of the smaller delta between lower frequencies and the loss in the higher ones, and mp3 has great range (drop-off around 15k versus 14k)

mediacoder is one of the best transcoding applications that i have found for windows, and it's free (as is everything else that is worth your time). with the trend in anti-consumer practices, open-source and free programs have been the best stuff to use for audio and video tinkering
