Figuring cubic feet size

I took geometry like 4 yrs ago, u think I can remember what I learned?

I do remember some things, just not the formula for volume.

So you find the dimensions, multiply them, and then divide by 1728 to find the volume?

What about boxes with a slot port, do you add the port in, or not?

I want to find the net size. How do you do that?

I want to be able to do these calculations myself, so I want to learn it.

Right now im going by my current box, and when I did the calculations, it came out 6.6--- cubic feet. But the box is 4 cubes.
