figure out positive and negative from subwoofer?

Got a sub that I think was reconed because owner is not orignal owner, but written on the magnet shows that the positive and negative is opposite what the terminals say. Is there a way to tell what is actually what?

9v battery, hook up it up to pos and neg. If the excersion is outward its correct, if its inward switch it. Thats the way I've done it with mids that weren't labeled.
