Fiberglass waterproof?

If you want to get technical , the glass isn't expsosed to the water in boat hulls . The gel coat is //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
And yes polyester or epoxy resin can form a water Resistant barrier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
What is the difference between water proof and water resistant. I feel dumb asking but some guy last week asked what a square root was so I don't feel too dumb about it.

Ever wonder why marina's offer dry docking services ?

The resin will repel water. But if allowed to sit in it for a long enough time , the minerals in the water will eventually allow the water to start to saturate the resin. But it takes a while for this to happen with just rain water usually . //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

unless you leave the water sitting in the ottom of the trunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I don't know anyone who owns a boat, nor have I been on a boat. I didn't know this service existed, I assume it's like a lift.

It is not sitting water, more like damp. It seems to evaporate quickly.

I need a new car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Your life *****.

Cerial.

I couldnt stand to live somewhere where I couldnt enjoy watersports.

It takes a really, really, REALLY long time for water to saturate polyester resin...and in freash water it isnt really a problem. Rainwater is distilled water so there are little or no minerals in it at all...unless you have acid rain.

Drydocking is normally only big for OCD's, Salt water boats that dont want growth on the bottom, and older boats that dont have a Gel coat.

The rest of us get a good bottom job and scrape barnicles. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I have never had the need to ride on a boat. I was interested in riding a ski-doo but they are rather expensive to rent.

driving the average boat is no fun....but wakeboarding, fishing, pulling people on tubes, **** loads of fun. (when we take the boat to the lake we dont want to take our turn to ride the tube, we want to take our turn yanking the sucker on the tube around).

Jet-Ski's are fun. But once you get used to the average jet-ski that will run 50-60mph on a flat lake it gets boring. Thoes Hondas that will run 90 in the ocean on the otherhand.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Living in florida, my dad being in the Navy, being put on a swim team at age 6, and my dad owning a number of boats including a 19' bayliner and a 27' Megregor (saild boat), and a 9' hard bottom digy with a 10hp outboard that my brother and I used to take out, and a sunfish that I learned to sail on by myself when I was 9....being to the bahamas on the 27' two times and now my dad with a 29' chris craft with twin chevy 350's....

Let's just say water is a has been and always will be a big part of my life.

If you're ever going to be in FL hit me up. We are always looking for another sucker to put on the tube. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

You sail to the bahamas? That's pretty cool. I have never met anyone that sailed anywhere.

Well at the time I was too young to do any real sailing. It was all my brother and dad. This past summer though...

Cliff jumping and parasailing....

I am not to big on high adventure kind of things. I don't do roller coasters or anything like that.

That isnt parasailing. The boat isnt moving.

It's called spinacer sailing. The boat is ancered aft to the wind and the top of the spinacer is tied to the top of the forward mast like normal, but instead of being tied down to the front you tie a seat to it. I have video I will load up once I get home. It is really cool. Really dangerous though. I got up 60' or so in the air (over the top of the mast). One guy fell from about 25' in the air and landed on his back. You also have to be careful to not get any limbs caught in the ropes. But it is by far the coolest experence anyone can ever have. going up and down with the wind. No sound and you can see for miles.

Cliff jumping...well not for everyone. Especially into the blueholes or into heavy surf. That cliff wasnt too high. Completely safe even if you didnt hit the water correctly.

No reason you couldn't just glue a ring of plywood up under there then paint it with some bedliner or plasti-dip or similar to keep the elements...
