Fiberglass waterproof?

Is the fiberglass resin you buy at stores waterproof? My trunk leaks and on my next box build I was thinking of 'glassing the box to make sure it doesn't swell because of the water.

For some reason, the trunk lid has "lifted" and I am not sure how to adjust it.

My question is, is the resin at lowe's (the elmer's or bondo stuff) waterproof. I wasn't certain if there was a difference or grades of resin.

So, it's safe to assume that normal fiberglass is waterproof

your joking right?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

are you serious?

Yes, I am. My knowledge of fiberglass resin is minimal.

just use some polyurethane to coat the box, it will be lighter and most likely cheaper
polyurethane cannot be submerged in water for long periods. The carpet in the trunk absorbs the water and the box essentially sits in water after a hard rain. I think it would take many coats for the durability I need.

Again, I am serious. I don't think they make boats and surfboards out of the same stuff they sell at Lowe's. They might, but I don't think so.

To answer your question, yes it's water proof.

You might want to focus your attention on fixing your trunk though. I'm sure things get stinky after it rains.

Thanks.

I have tried but I am unsure what is exactly wrong. Part of the trunk is level, but it rises and then becomes level again. I think it is the 3 layers of rammat, plus age that is what is killing me.

I am looking for a new (to me) car in the 4-6k range.

Boat hulls are made with fiberglass.

If you want to get technical , the glass isn't expsosed to the water in boat hulls .
