Fiberglass to fix a car leak?? Ghetto repairs. Need ideas

if you keep using the power steering in that condition it will leak all the fluid out and kill the pump too. disable the pump like another member said and remove the belt from that pulley. since all options are not options to you I suggest *******. That is now the only option. I used to love people that came in with hacked up cars like this. Just fix it right I know you are trying to save them cash but the hatchet aint going to fly straight on this job

when the steering rack went out on my gs300 it was only $350 remanufactured...an older model remanufactured part is less than that.

you can also pull the boot back and throw a hose clamp on it. i think you are stupid and so is your brother. neither one of you know what you are talking about nor do you care to find a solution.

Well it aint my cash to spend so what Am I supposed to say, hes 135lbs wet so he wont be able to use the car without power steering.

I never thought of a worm clamp, that will work good!!

BS. Once the vehicle is rolling he will have no problem turning the wheel.

Will it require slightly more effort ?

Yes, but not all that much.

If he wants to spin the wheels when parked than that's a bit different. It's at that point when power steering helps out the most.

thanks for the info there tips, i drive 2 manual steering cars (civic/crx) and turning in parking lots sucks, cant imagine what it would be like in a car 1500lbs heavier to a much smaller guy, and no, sending him home like that isnt an option

im tired of reading this guys posts. Just let him fiberglass it already, hes gonna do it anyway.
He should post pics when he's done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Well by the sounds of it thus far I dont think he will be making it home at all.

I would just run the ***** without power steering till I could find a rack to swap out.

Unfortunately for the circumstances, there is no ghetto way of fixing the leaking seal in the power steering rack....unless you think duct tape and rubber cement will stop the fluid pressure in a hydraulic system....but hell, duct tape fixes everything.

I drove a dodge 150 without power steering and I was 130 soaking wet at the time.

You can either rebuild it, new one, clamp, disable. Pick which one is the easiest and safest for the vehicle and him.
