How well does fiberglass bond to plastic?

Depends on the kind of plastic. Most plastics polyester resin won't stick to. Epoxy resin will stick to some plastics a little better. What are ya doing ? Maybe I can give some ideas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the rule is...either polyester resin or fiberglass resin will stick to any solid that is less dense. if you know anything about chemistry and phyics think of it like this. resins wont usually form a chemical bond (like when model glue is used on plastic it actually melts the plastics together) but resin seeps in between molecules then hardens, think of it like liquid velcro.

My overhead sunroof/light control panel is made of plastic. I want to cut out the a peice of it and then make a custom mount in that spot for a multimedia display. The area to be cut out is a main support area for holding the panel up in the headliner, so I need to add the mount points back to the customized area after I finish.

Okay you need epoxy resin. And Take some rough like 40 grit sandpaper. And scuff the plastic where you want the glass to stick. Make deep scuff marks to give it something to hold onto. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what resin would stick best to like a cardboard box? that what im thining of useing for a console, or should i use something else? baiscally just need to replace my console now, so i can add a dvd player and the Epic 150..

i wasnt talking about you or your audi i was talking about babyjay and his riced out honda. look at his avatar. letme explain rice to you....rice is trying something to yourcar that you heard (or imagined) was a good idea without actually knowing anything about it. like a big aluminum wing because it helps with downforce, the truth is downforce isnt even a factor unless your going 175+. or using cardboardto builda center console when any decent fiberglasser knows that mdf is the best way to go on a center console. come on, cardboard? i know know, there are no stupid questions, but come on...thats a pretty stupid concept. but since you asked, no dont use cardboard. use mdf. if you need curved mdf, makea punch of tiny plunge cuts in vertical parellel lines and the mdf will bend. **** ricers.

or he could just make the fiber piece, then drill 2 or 3 holes in it, screw it in, then bondo the holes and slap some paint on there......
