Fi Vs. Re

Mr. Slate you have just proved my dilemma I'm afraid that if I don't go with the XXX I'll wish I did and I'll end up upgrading. That is the reason I'm skipping 15s I just want that holy **** factor when people hear it. So maybe I would be better to just save up and get 2 xxx.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif So if I do that I will definantly need to know of some places that they are cheaper than 1500 a piece lol.

1 18" BTL would eat an xxx
There are plenty of situations where that is not true. Especially when SQ is considered. Sadly, its not considered much around here these days it seems.
OP is comparing two extremely different speakers.

Id agree the old RE is very similar to Fi, for obvious reasons. But the new RE products, the XXX and MX namely, are quite different animals than pretty much most other products out there. In some good ways, and in some not so good ways. IMO of course.

I heard RE is coming out with a new design for the XXX in 09. Has anyone else heard that?

Audioholic you mentioned that the xxx and mx are diffrent animals and that they are good in some ways and bad in others. Would you mind explainging this? thanks. Also I'm looking at the diffrences between the MX and the XXX and you can call me a noob thats fine but all the numbers that the give off under the technical specs I don't understand what they mean. So I guess my next question is any help there? lol And the vehivle is a 2001 F-150 super-cab

the xxx is capable of MORE, while the draw back to the mx is a motor noise when mounted inverted...... they are different in the sense that they were ment for SQ while the btl was ment to just get loud....

the mx and xxx are similar to each other however the x is saposedly a better sounding woofer, while the xxx gets louder...

ahh. I see. Now as far as all the numbers and info they throw at me on the spec sheets do you guys read all that and get anything from it? I did notice that the MX recomends less power by 500 watts rms but I Think I've decided to go with RE now my decision is between the MX and XXX.

But really any 18s are gonna be an upgrade right now im just running 2 Rockford Fosgate p3d412s

The MX is a neo based design, that is still fairly rare. And the new xxx is the current king of the excursion wars as far as production subs go, by a long ways. In the right sealed setup, nothing else would even come close. Unfortunately, the design also lends itself to needing enclosures that would be considered excessively large for car audio purposes, contrary to RE's recommended enclosure sizes. In a sealed HT setup, or a car audio application where someone where willing to invest more realistic enclosure sizes, it could perform extremely well.

the xxx is neo mag too.......ive talked to greg and in reality for the 18 he like to see 12 cubes for the 18....so realistically unless you have a van or something of that nature id say the mx will do more than what your expecting....
