Fi BTL 12 vs. AQ HD3 12

SPL140.2 (egg) is using 3 HD3 10s I think and wins up in NY.
Almost correct //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif im using 2-10" HD3's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I just cant wait till my rex is delivered //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif im gonna do both sanctions next season IASCA, and DRAG //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Igot the neon to 151.8 on the TL, but the neon is gonna be retired //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you fellas are tellin me the btl can handle 6k dailey???? If thats so i call the BS flag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif There isnt a sub to my knowledge that can take 6k dailey. Maybe 6k for burps. I can tell you the AQ will take 6k for burps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif been there done that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well, according to ROE they can with a fully loaded BTL

but thats out of my buds price range and we're not gonna give it more then 2K daily in the long run, and plus the 2 yr warrantee really nudges us into the AQ territory...

hopefully my bud can hit mid-high 140's with a HD3 15 with 2000 rms for music...

Let me clear up a few misconceptions about the HD3 cooling system without starting a flame war which I will not be a party to.

This whole thing got started when I was asked to compare the HD3 with the DD9500 cooling system and which was the better system. My answer was that the DD9500 had a very extensive system of cooling passages machined into the motor combined with several other features which in total are, I think, the ultimate in cooling design. If one wanted the absolute best in cooling features and money were no object I would choose the DD9500 system.

On the other hand I think the cooling system on the HD3 is as good as it gets other then the DD system. With the exception of the machined passages the HD3 incorporates all the features of the DD system.

How well does the HD3 cooling system work? The simple answer is it works great. Many endusers are burping the HD3's with DDZ1's, Memphis 4000 D's and even higher as SPL140.2 can tell you. I have reconed AQ's to smaller basket sizes for a competitor who had hundreds of full power burps on DDZ1 amps at very low ohm loads and sometimes strapped. The coils showed no sign what-so-ever of thermal damage and could have been used again.

I rate the power handling on the AQ subs for 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I do not believe in inflated RMS figures and rate VERY conserative. If you toast an HD3 coil you have to be doing something really dumb. I know of only two burnt coils on the HD3 series. The subs were in a competition vehicle with two MA4000's per sub. The competitor stated he had "amp problems and weny into full clipp" and that it was no fault of the subs.

When you purchase a HD3 you get the full package at no extra costs for anything. We build it the best we can everytime.

nice little "around the bush" bash on Fi //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and yes, mroe than likely with the right box and tuning, the BTL COULD take 6kw daily.

I saw that.. I sorta like having options so I get a sub exactly te way I want it.

but like I stated earlier I was going to get AudioQue before I got my FI, both are great companys and both owners are awesome people to deal with. I havnt had hands on with DJ(I think thats his name) but I have with Scott.

I know it's not the HD3, but I helped a co-worker out with installing a pair of Audioque's SD2.5 12" subs. They really pounded with about 700w RMS going to each sub - just a really high-quality budget sub. DJ's customer service is impeccable. He and I must've had 25 emails going back and forth about these subs.

Fi, apparently, has great customer service as well, but I've had no dealing with them. I personally think you can't go wrong with either company. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I didnt take it as a bash on FI but rather standing up for his subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif both are great subs and I wouldnt mind owning either.

I believe FI builds a very good product and my post was not intended to bash anyone or any company. If it was taken that way it was not my intention.
Could be read that way - but not taken that way by anymeans!

AQ and DD make a great product...no doubt about that, i've had my fair share of DD (from the first 3500 series woofers up to when the 9915's first started showing their faces) woofers over the years...i just cant afford them anymore.

well i think we learned alot from this post //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

first of all, its definitely f#cking awesome to have good people standing next to their good products and take care of their customers...like DJ, Scott and Mike...

and buttom line is, these two subs are probably two of the best subs out there for the money...

thanks for all the inputs...we'll keep everything in mind when its time to order...peace //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

are you planning on getting just ONE BTL or HD3? or 2?
cus if you're gonna feed 3-6K, from what these guys are saying, the BTL is def for you...

altho the BTL has better cooling, since we're not gonna feed the sub so much power, i think these guys are right that the HD3 would be fine for us...if you're gonna feed 2k+ into each, then you're probably looking at the BTL with all the upgrades...which pops it into the $470 or something like that...+$100 over HD3
I plan on getting two of whichever I decide to buy. I have two Massive Audio P3000.1's right now but they are not hooked up. I am just getting everything together for next year. I want to do a little local competing next year and hope these are the ticket into the game. I'd rather just use one amp for ease of install and adjusting but what do you professionals think?

well, you heard the guys...either one will be just fine...and should be able to handle all of your power if needed to...

i'm guessing that two HD3's off 1500rms each from one of your amps should be crazy loud tho...

and a lesson for me and everyone else is don't assume things unless you got the facts straight and from the person who makes the subs...(i.e. assuming it had cooling problems cus someone else said it did)...

but ultimately, pick your poison...

This is what makes internet car audio companies great. There is discussion about a product and few have any real proof, but then the owner comes in and clears things up without bashing the competition. Good stuff
