Feeling around for something to power my SSD

Got a SSD 10, D2 and copper coil. Box is ported at 1 cu ft and 35 Hz.

Trying to get an idea of what I want to power this thing with. Right now, I'm running it off a Kenwood kac-7201, which is about 460w, and this sub is absolutely begging for more juice. I know the rms is 800w, but I thinking of going with an amp that can push out 1000w so it will get some nice, clean power. Plus, there is always the chance that I might upgrade to a Q or BL in the future. Budget is about $250, but that can change pending my willingness to put in more hours at work.

Just found this on ebay.

Zed made, and chrome is hard to find.

US Acoustics USA 2300F ZED AUDIO OLD SCHOOL Chrome!

Buy It Now price: US $229.00

Specs:

2 x 300 @ 4 ohms

2 x 400 @ 2 ohms

1 x 800 @ 4 ohms

(He's wrong on this spec. I own this model in the standard finish, and its rated at 900w mono.)

Pretty nice looking amp...

Quick question, I searched around but couldn't find the answer, what are the advantages of getting an amp that can put out 1000w at 1ohm instead of 4ohms? I know the basic "more power for less money", but are there any technical advantages? Like increased SQ, less strain on my electrical system, or mechanically/thermally better for the sub?

I would think 1,000w at 1 ohm would require more current drain, but Im not an expert on that kinda stuff.

See, I'm not really sure. It seems like 1000w at 1ohm would be fairly harsh on my electrical system, but then I think about how 1000w @ 4 ohms would technically require more power (thus worse on the electrical) because it has to overcome more resistance, right?

Well, I'm guessing this means that the difference in impedances are about equally harsh on my electrical.

So, which is better for the driver/voice coil?

Also, looking for any suggestions. I'm not as familiar with amps in general as I am with subwoofers.

drivers could care less about what impedence they are being ran at.

Amps on the other hand tend to distort less at high impedences. Also fully regulated amps like the JBL stuff are easier on subs as they use a much different design than the high current Korean based amps

So if I'm trying to find a good mix between quality and efficiency, should I go with a Class D @ 4 ohms or an A/B @ 1 ohm? Or am I completely off?

Alright, thanks for the help lil. I think this is pretty much all the technical info I was looking for. Perhaps not as detailed as I hoped, but it shall be sufficient enough for now.

Could anyone perhaps just form of list on companies that make high quality amps, while noting the ones that are good for people on a budget?

Would Kenwood be alright to go with again if I end up on a tighter budget than hoped? The amp I have now has been relatively good to me. I've done some pretty noob things to it and it still runs like a million bucks.

There is a good possibility all these things are correct.

I know for sure it'll strain your electrical less, sound better (maybe inaudible difference, but still)
