Rycenga= a scholar who did this research

Crandall= a white woman who sympathized with black abolitionists

Rycenga laments that Crandall did not leave a diary ("I wish," she said) and believes that national clamor over Crandall's school soon grew so loud that it eclipsed her and her students. If there was outside influence on her, it came first from the free black community that supported her school's goal and sent her their daughters, Rycenga said. She is convinced in particular that Crandall must have read the writings of the black feminist abolitionist Maria Stewart.

Born in Hartford in 1803, the same year as Crandall, Stewart spent her youth as an indentured servant before finding a pulpit in Boston. There she became the first woman, black or white, known to make a political speech before a mixed audience. "It is astounding to me that the name Maria Stewart is not on the tip of everybody's tongue. Whatever the coverup has been, it is my job in life to uncover it," Rycenga said.

In 1831, in a speech reprinted in Garrison's "Liberator," Stewart declared: "Shall it any longer be said of the daughters of Africa, they have no ambition, they have no force? By no means. Let every female heart become united, and let us raise a fund for ourselves; and at the end of one year and a half, we might be able to lay the cornerstone for the building of a high school, that the higher branches of learning might be enjoyed by us."

Less than two years later, Crandall determined to remake her school into the kind Stewart envisioned. Her students were to become teachers, departing Canterbury to promote black advancement.

mariah stewart was born into slavery/servitude but she was educated while growing up. she worked with david walker, the author of 'david walkers appeal'. but when walker died in 1830, she took up his cause, becoming very militant and outspoken towards blacks whom she considered 'not doing anything' to help advance freedom and upliftment among all blacks....... free and enslaved

I know have a tendency to think through so I wanted to get your input on my take on this Obama/Wright mess.

It is my belief that this Wright guy has lined his pockets by fanning the fires of division. I also think that by doing so he has shown' date=' at best, a reckless indifference for the well being of the members of his own congregation.

Their ability to thrive economically and socially depends, in part, on an ability to interact with white people as well as black. Filling their heads full of garbage certainly does not help them.

I think Obama remained a member of the church for political expediency. Now that the costs outweigh the benefits, he is ready to throw Wright under the bus.

Thoughts?

holy shit [person who sent me the PM].......... funny you asked me this!! i'm was watchin larry king an our ago and this is EXACTLY what they're discussing.

members of his congregation:

rev wright is very popular among black churches. i heard his name long before i or many other people heard of barack and never knew what he looked like until this media frenzy. his congregation will stick by his side because he's a phenomenal preacher from what i heard. black congregations are like that about their pastors....... they think they're earthly gods and somewhat treat them as such. i was a member of this church called mt. ararat and members, many members, there think the head pastor is the greatest in the world. the most absolutely wonderfullest person in the western hemisphere. if he was caught raping retarded hermaphrodites, he would get a pass. wrights congregation will treat him the same way.

filling there heads full of garbage

i heard very few quotes from wright. the other things i've heard are the clips that CNN and MSNBC were running continously over a 4 day/96hr period. the "god damm america" quote and i heard about the 'government/aids' thing. [person who sent me the PM], everybodies heard these theories about the fed gov inventing aids as a biological weapon that probably got out of hand or was simply misused. we all heard about some african dude bangin a monkey and thats how HIV/aids was started. ppl are always gonna debate about conspiracies, whether they have evidence for or against them. Wright was just rehashing conspiracies that have been out for years.

wright talkin about that america deserved 9-11...... that can summed up just this fast; michael moores 'farenheight 911'. great flick and everybody saw it. maybe Wright was influenced by it ((( by the way which is not true, since the movie came out a few years after 911))) but a good amount of ppl knew that the fed gov was tied up in some dealings with iraq and kuwait and what not. it wasn't hard to find info on that and maybe Wright did that. he was simply saying, IMO, that because the USA had these dealings with the middle east in the past and then ((( blank spot here cause i don't know if the US screwed them over or just left them alone after operation desert shield in the 90s'))), that the chickens coming home the roost to america is some of the kickback that america threw out there.. malcolm x said it when kennedy got assasinated.... if the US is gonna throw the boomerang of violence against civil rights workers, that violence is gonna fly back and touch something we love and admire.

and u remember how long that thread was on the 911 conspiracy we had here?? how many ppl posted links to 'loose change' and other films?

some ppl may view what Wright is puttin in peoples heads as garbage......... but there's always some type of treasure/valuable in garbage.

thriving economically and socially

ur right. if you're white and you thrive socially and economically among white people only, u must be selling farm equipment to a bunch of skin heads and KKK members in binkabock, wyoming!!

if you're black and you thrive socially and economically among black people only, u must be selling relaxers and chicken sandwiches in compton.

u have to include all ppl. it is amazing how much you're horizon stretches when you deal with different ethnicities of people. the major thing that stops us is communication barriers.

remainded for political expediency

i have no idea here man. he was a member there before he became a politician so IDK. to stay there because he was running for prez and wanted ppl to see he was relgious IDK, but i wouldn't be suprised.
