Fast and the Furious- confused

The movie was just on TV so I watched it for like the thousandth time... Anyway, I noticed something that I never had before and was wondering if I'm an idiot or the movie fudged up?

When they pull up to the stop light, at the end of the movie when Vin Diesel has his fathers car he says "Those tracks up ahead are exactly a quarter mile away, on green I'm goin' for it."

And previously he said that the car ran a 9 second quarter...

Well, the race before the train tracks is like 3 minutes long; man it takes those 'do not cross' arms more than 9 seconds to drop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

So did I miss something, or was it just because its a movie?...

Sorry if this was discussed before, searched and didnt see anything.
