Farfetched idea, is it possible?

Hey, I was wondering if it was at all possible to recarpet a vechicle using speaker box carpet?

I don't particularly like the color of my carpet in my truck, and was thinking about recarpetting it in black. Is this possible?

If so, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

It wouldn't hold up.

And any carpet thick enough wouldn't fit right, you'd have wrinkles and folds.

You'd have to get a premolded replacement. You may be able to find an aftermarket replacement in non-oem colors.

the carpet used on speaker boxes is generally replacement automotive carpeting, so (in theory) yes, that's actually what it's made for.

but as pointed out above it won't fit right if you're trying to redo it all.

if it's just a small (mostly flat) section you should be ok.

actually, you MIGHT be able to get away with using your old carpet as padding

just try getting a cheap pack of speaker carpet, and see if it will mold correctly with an iron

you MAY be able to get it to streth/fit right using an iron

but it may become too thin and let you see the old carpet underneath

and obviously when doing it for real, you'll need to use some sort of adhesive

well, the stuff I'm looking at says it blends well, so if I did it in sections, and had it blend perfectly. Like, I could do my back wall and that floor section, the then the front part in halves. Hrmm...

Prolly wouldn't work if I bought the carpet by the yard, would it?

No one has carpet for my year of truck yet, and I am sad.

EDIT: What does heat molding mean? I mean, I know what it means, but like, could I mold the carpet if I had a heat gun?

speaker box "carpet" is normaly the trunk liner found in cars. and fyi, would look like shit if used as carpet in the car. because it will get warn down.
exactly right. there really is no backing to speak of with that type of carpet. a twist of the foot by a fat guy may tear it.
