Fanning the Amps

K check out the primitive drawin there..

My main question is whether or not mounting the amps vertically and basically face to face is a good idea. I have a Rockford Fosgate 801S Punch amp which I've heard can get pretty hot and also an MTX Thunder 2150X amp. Will the fans definitely keep them cool? Also I'm going to be placing this right next to my sub box (pioneer ts-w3002spl) it's fine to mount the amps close to the sub, right?

Also the reason im doing this is because the box I'm going to build will leave me with about 8 inches of room to the side and I would like to build this slim little box..

When amps are going to use forced air cooling their orientation becomes irrelavant, the only thing that then matters is the airflow over the fins and ensuring the hot exhaust air isn't sucked straight into the intake again (usually isn't a problem in most cases)

okay cool.. figured that -

would you recommend lining the fans up in a column or having two at the front and two at the back?

also should I reduce the volume of the boxes interior as much as possible or will it even matter? I think leaving an inch in between the amps and some extra room in the box won't hurt and that the fans will do a good job anyway

You don't need a lot of airflow to keep an amp within normal operating temps, most amps are designed around passive convection cooling so even a half assed fancooling setup will be effective enough at removing heat from the amp.

If you mount the amps so they are in a "wind tunnel" then the fans can be at either end or even in the middle.
