False floors

Well I'm thinkin about doing this in my trunk, actually I'm quite set on doing it, but there isn't a lot of information on it.

I know you basically just put some 2x4s down or something, and screw a carpeted piece of MDF onto it...but what are some of the specifics.

How do you make a template of your trunk so you can cut the pieces of wood correctly? Do you secure the false floor or just set it in? How do you run wires through it, just drill holes in spots where they won't be seen coming through? Little details like that are what I'm looking for. Pictures of installs are welcome as well

I think it'll mostly common sense.

first off you can use your stock carpet or floor board as a template. you can also use a big piece of cardboard and cut it to fit and use that as a template.

Wires can be ran how you like, since the false floor should hide them all one installed.

I also dont' think there are any specifics because the things you'll need to do will change depending on your plans/designs you have in mind. try looking at different installs to get ideas, if you can find them.

I just made a very simple one i can show you, but it's plain as can be.

i just used the stock carpet as a template, and used two pieces of 1/4" hardboard, 1 for under the sub box, 1 for the obvious 'access lid' or whatever you call it.

****...I cut my stock carpet lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I guess I still have a complete half, I'll just hope my trunk is symetrical.

I'm going to have a rectangular l-port box in the back of my trunk, and behind the left tail light I'm going to put my carpc in a fiberglass enclosure, and on the right I would like to mount the amps and second battery.

To check if your floor symetrical just look at the carpet peaces for the sides of the trunk. I also cut my floor carpet for one of my first false floors. For my new one i had to trace one side of the trunks side carpet. measure the distance between the two sides (top and bottom keep things square) then trace the other side.

This is a harder method and easier to make a mistake with but it can work if you take your time.

Or you could just use poster board and make a template in your trunk and use that.

Also if this is your first floor install a mistake i made was not having wires run properly and not enough wire. Test fit everything before you finalize anything. Just a friendly heads up

Another way to get your floor stuck in place really good is expanding foam. Mind you its a pain if you ever plan to take it out.
