false floor enclosure

I need help on creating a false floor for my system. i know i can use the floor carpeting in the trunk as a template for the bottom of it but what about the top i can just look and tell that were i want the top to be isnt going to be congruent with the bottom. the only solution i can think of is to take a sheet of plastic, use tape to mount it were i want the top to be and cut it with a razor to make a template but i seriously doubt how accurate this can be.

another question do i really need to use mdf? thats stuffs expensive and u need special bits for it. can i get away with just using plywood and sounddeading it real good? i'm not talking about the enclosure just the false floor

Use MFD in all circumstances involving your trunk and subs. MDF is more expensive, however in the end, it is much higher quality, and you should use it particularlly on the floor, or base of your enclosure. Sound deaden your MDF and it will perform even better. I have seen too many boxes and ect built with plywood. Use MDF, you'll thank yourself down the road.

How about taking some cardboard as a template? just take little pieces off untill it fits.

The plastic-thingie is very creative! I never would have thought of that! It will actually work quite well if you draw a line where the board should come so you won't have to start all over if the tape pops loose.

Particleboard is a little cheaper and every bit as functional, that what i used and its treated me well

I have seen my friends blow particle board up. The enclosure was made properly too, with screws, glue, silicon, and carpet. I definetly use MDF for all my enclosures. It hold up longer and can take more punishment....subs do function better in proper environments and that includes the enclosure. All in all, spend the extra little bit of money for MDF and it will save yourself for kicking yourself in the a** later on
