Fall Alergies medication

Could always try some prescription stuff. Singulair, Zyrtec D (which always worked well for me), or Allegra D. If your nasal passages are congested I'd also suggest a nasal spray such as Flonase or Nasonex. Trust me, I'm a pharmacist (well.... in training, lol I've worked in a pharmacy for a while and I'm in my 3rd year of pharmacy school, plus I was on all these medications for years and years)

Well, I've been on something around 12 different prescriptions for allergies, have had one round of 6 years of allergy shots and another of 2 because I have just about the worst allergies you can have.

I hate being dependent on all the medications, so I started exploring.

By FAR the thing that has made the biggest difference, is totally OTC, very cheap.

It's called the NeilMed Sinus Rinse and it changed my life. No joke.

Do that and then Astelin. Only intranasal antihistamine.

I do that thing every night in the shower, and the Astelin + Singulair and sometimes if i feel like it i take a Zyrtec too. Sometimes i use Flonase or Rhinocort as well.

Sinus Rinse FTW though... it's kinda gross but after a while you get used to it and it's the only thing that really really works.

lol thanks... it sucks having pollen-based / seasonal allergies all season long, when i was ages 3-5 i couldn't go outside during the spring/summer for long without a mask //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

for reference, anybody that has real allergic rhinitis knows that claritin is a joke... it doesn't really do much at all. I can take 6 of them and be just as bad allergy wise and just get sick.

but the Zyrtec(-D) and Allegra(-D) are considered the powerful ones and they work well for most people (allegra didn't work at all for me), but they seriously alter your mood after a certain amount of time of being on it just cause it makes you drowsy, even if you only take it at night. i've experienced that very first hand. .... Studies show that Singulair however complements any antihistamine really well... Singulair + Zyrtec or Singulair + Astelin or whatever is about 2x as good as either by itself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

The NeilMed for the win though. It's like $10-15 for the bottle and all the packets. Refills are like $2 for 1000 refills. It's awesome. Takes some practice too though to get it down lol.

Now i can go outside and be freeeee //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

My fall allergies have kicked in. Is there something better than Clariton? I think i have gotten immuned to clariton.
My bro told me something about Chlor-Trimeton....I never heard of it...

Any suggestions?

it sucks, today i am mowing the yard wearing my Respirator.
And as far as mowing the yard... that just sucks.. if i drive by a park where they just mowed the grass my eyes swell up and nose starts running, no matter what i'm taking.

any allergist will tell you to never, ever do that. cut grass and flowering trees are the worst. everything else is more or less negligible with medication/clearing your sinuses.

imagine your sinuses like a swamp, and the more you drain them and take care of them the better your life can be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i had just enlightened my roommate about this because hes been having a rough fall as far as allergies go lol he actually just went to wegmans to get the stuff u said. is it prescription only or over the counter stuff?

haven't really read everything but my mom is a nurse so I know a little (and I have fall allergies!)

I've found that regular 24 hour allergy medicines work good taken on a day to day basis with nasal spray (not necisseraly nasonex or flonase but generic anefrin nasal spray works good) and possibly eye drops.

For those shitty days (i had one yesterday) you need something with a "D" in it, like allegra D, clariton D, etc because that has the decongestent in it (something with pseudoephedrine) but its a little harder to get (im pretty sure its all behind the counter)

by the way watch out for those meds a lot of them contain shit that makes you drowsy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

and thats all for now

Truth, I have the NeilMed Sinus rinse as well...

I had allergy shots for 11years, and took zyrtec and nasacort spray daily (prescribed).

I weened off the allergy shots, then off the nasacort, then I was without insurance for well over a year and began using the sinus rinse as needed...

It's the truth.
