Where did you buy that mag from? And you are correct, that deff. isn't SI packaging.

UPS dropped my RE HC 18" back last year.

Dropped it so hard that it shifted the magnets and seized the VC up. Had insured it for 600 and shipped it properly (wood frame and tonss of foam) and still showed up wrapped in plastic in a regular cardboard box. We had Before and After pix of the box getting dropped off at the UPS store packaged RIGHT, and it showing up at my place beat to hell.

They wrote me a 200 dollar check and told me to "Sue them" if I didn't like it.

I have never had trouble with UPS though. Fedex has screwed me over a lot.

USPS FTW especially if you tip/have tipped your mailman.

I traded a sub to a member on here. I found out it wasnt sent in original SI packaging, but it was still packed well, and plastered with fragile stickers. I guess when they see those they deliver packages like Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura.
