Evolutionism vs. Creationism: Darwinism Dismantled

I am just waiting for one of the Christians to say "Believe it or you going to HELL!!!!" Always the last desperate attempt when all clear thinking fails. Just do the right things in life. There is no fear or discomfort, for yourself, when your dead, because, duh, your DEAD! However, you need to provide your family and freinds with good memories of you that will live forever. You only live once, hence, I by US Amps.

But with science we have certain ways of testing whether or not our theories can hold up to the physics of the universe. And, as you have pointed out, not all of them have. So, we can promptly dismiss those and begin to test other theories or further test other theories, and back those theories up by evidence that show how the theories match the physics of life and the universe.
Problem with creationism is that it entirely relies upon something that can not (and will not) ever be proven; that there is in fact an intelligent being that created us. You can dismiss evolution all you want, but you'll never be able to prove your theories correct in the same way science can.

Very well put. I agree completely with testing, experimenting and confirming. Every Scientist should be free to pursue where the evidence seems to be taking them. My point is the evidence, especially lately, has been pointing more and more scientists, aetheist and otherwise, towards intelligent design. Since much of it has been discovered in the last 50 years and is comparitively "new," a lot of people are unaware of it. I simply want to bring some of it to light and let people pick it apart for themselves to see if it stands up to scrutiny.

BTW, I do not dismiss evolution completely. There are areas of it that are not in disagreement with the Bible. For example, what evolutionists call micro-evolution, creationists call adaptation. Different name for the same basic thing.

What I dismiss is that random, against all odds, chance brought about the intricate complexity that is life. It is intricate and complex because it was intelligently designed and engineered that way...like every other example of something complex we see in this life. Ya know, if I want a watch I don't throw a bunch of random peices of things into a box and shake it until they eventually fall into a funtional timepiece (even that is envolving more intelligent activity then is attributed to evoluiton), I go buy one that has been designed and built by some one who knew what they were doing.

addendum: if there is "something else" out there, I'd probably take the Deist stance of Voltaire, Jefferson and most of the Founding Fathers - he's gone and left us a while ago, so we had better learn to deal with life on our own.

Interesting. Well if Jesus were your Deity of choice then you'd probably have already read Genesis where He made mankind "stewards" (i.e. managers) of this world in His stead...but never left us. He most often works through mankind rather then around mankind because, after all, according to Him we are the reason for it all and He wants us to be a pivotal part of the process.

BTW, considering many of our founding fathers "claimed" to be Christians, openly admitted and documented that our laws and constitution were based on the 10 commandments and Biblical principals and who's mothers and fathers had risked everything to sail into the unknown in the name of religious freedom, I find it hard to believe the majority of them felt God had "left us."

But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. - Thomas Jefferson, "Notes on Virginia", 1782

As I have now given you my reasons for believing that the Bible is not the Word of God, that it is a falsehood, I have a right to ask you your reasons for believing the contrary; but I know you can give me none, except that you were educated to believe the Bible; and as the Turks give the same reason for believing the Koran, it is evident that education makes all the difference, and that reason and truth have nothing to do in the case. - Thomas Paine, essay to a friend, 1797

Your sold huh? Science has gone from "slight, successive, favorable variations,” from a single common ancestor (Origins) over billions of years, to an abrupt arrival of a wide representation of animals extinct and still existing. A theory that so closely resembles the Biblical account of creation that the biggest difference is the Bible gives a cause and the evolutionists are still trying to figure the "mystery" behind it.
Life did form abruptly on this planet, but the universe existed billions of years before the earth did. Science does leave a little room for a god (ie. things that aren't yet explained by science) but not much. And if you're saying what we've got now goes hand in hand w/ the bible, I'm not really following.

very good quotes... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

religious folks have a book that says GOD made the world

non-religious folks have a book that says XXXXXXX happened and we are where we are because of it.

Religion is one big contradiction... people believe in it because 1: its a copout.... offers up a simple explanation for EVERYTHING "god did it" "thats the way god wants it" and so on 2: if you DONT believe... or at least mindlessly attend church... your family/community may think you are a bad person. 3: IF YOU DONT XXXXX YOUR GOIN TO HELL!!!

Religion is taught and learned... flat out.

As far as creation... I really doubt anyone knows for sure. How the hell could you prove GOD created everything? It holds as much credence as me saying my great grandfather farted and out came a pixie. Can I prove it? no... but DAMIT I BELIEVE!

And the bible says XXXXXXX happened... how can it be proved that its no more than a novel? That "word of GOD" has killed more people than hitler's "mein kampf"...

Some people need Jesus to tell them what to do, and how to live... thats all good and well if it keeps you from causing me harm... but alot of the time, being religious gives you an excuse to do stupid shyte... because you can just go to confession, or just pray out the butt until you think its all forgiven. I guess it gives you piece of mind?

Could go on all day... but again.. whatever floats ure boat and keeps you off my toes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but I wanted to add this very interesting read:

http://www.carlzimmer.com/articles/2005/articles_2005_Avida.html

A little long I know, but still very intersesting. And if you don't read the article, just pay attention to this paragraph as an argument to the creationist argument about evolution spikes:

It also mirrored Lenski's own research. Since 1988 he has been running the longest continuous experiment in evolution. He began with a single bacterium-Escherichia coli-and used its offspring to found 12separate colonies of bacteria that he nurtured on a meager diet of glucose, which creates a strong incentive for the evolution of new ways to survive. Over the past 17years, the colonies have passed through35,000 generations. In the process, they've become one of the clearest demonstrations that natural selection is real. All 12 colonies have evolved to the point at which the bacteria can replicate almost twice as fast as their ancestors. At the same time, the bacterial cells have gotten twice as big. Surprisingly, these changes didn't unfold in a smooth, linear process. Instead, each colony evolved in sudden jerks, followed by hundreds of generations of little change, followed by more jerks.
