Evil-ution

LOL, that's my morning affirmation every day. And I have NO ill will towards cot at all, for the most part we've both been very respectful and I hope he feels the same.
Great attitude. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Agreed, No ill will. I do have a little confusion though.

Do you or do you not agree that while the Bible may provide a symbolic myth explaining the origin of the universe, it's not an effective scientific description and thus useless in the goal of discrediting evolution?

Even assuming no specific meaning in the word "day" and thus assuming no time scale in the creation account. You are most definitely dealing with a description that plants existed before the sun, true?

Now you could come to all sorts of conclusions as to try to rationalize this, but is not the most likely explanation that the people who wrote the Bible did not understand the connection between daylight and sunlight. You ever think that maybe God never told a man how he created us and the record was just oral tradition and myth added in? Evidence suggests that Genesis is basically a poem. Not a text book.

I just don't think you get it, man. I'm not trying to be mean or self righteous AT ALL but the things you keep asking me to explain I already have. Now this really is the last I'll say on the matter and will leave you to your beliefs and me to mine as I was never trying to convert you to a different way of thinking, merely educate you to the other side a little better.

You did and you lied about it. It was in the sound deadener showdown thread where i exposed don aka rudy for what he is.
Excuse me? Exactly what did you show me to be? My recollection is that you made some statements based entirely on supposition and timidly backed away when asked to support them. As I recall, you first complained that supporting your claims would be too expensive. When the tools were offered to you for free you became scarce. Seems like a strange episode to reference as proof of your integrity.

I understand that but you seem to be a little vague on what you are trying to get at with the information. I asked 3 simple questions yes or no answer questions

All I ask for is yes's/agree's or no's/disagree's to these 3 questions. You can feel free to explain your position as much or as little as you want.

I'm just trying to debate the information. I responded to all your posts at the same time we'd each take hours to respond and we wouldn't get very far.

This is actually one of the best threads I've seen anywhere on this topic. Too much superfluous antagonisms to follow the meat, but I've learned something from it.

To fully disclose, I don't believe it's possible for any written text to be infallible let alone a direct connection to the supernatural. Believing otherwise is fundamentalism and I don't distinguish between the Taliban and more familiar seeming expressions.

I've been convinced for some time that attempts to equate evolution and the Biblical creation story, science and religion are a cynical attempt by those with a financial stake in establishing the equivalency. Unfortunately those with a predilection toward an us and them view of life have accepted it as a faith calling.

I've seen something new in this thread: the idea that evolution was somehow directed toward "positive" change, as if evolution was an entity. This suggests a deeper division than I've understood before. I don't think anybody has the right to disparage those who believe the Jewish creation story is literal fact but I don't think it has any place in a science class or any place in a public school other than in a history or social studies class. This idea of "directed evolution" makes me think those fighting against observable realities really think it is an issue of competing religions, as clumsily as they may express the view.

He didn't show anything. You know it, I know it, any reasonable person who read the thread knows it. But you and I are in much the same boat here, finding ourselves defending our morals and motives from a pathological liar. He picked two facts out, that you created the sound deadener showdown and that you later sold your own sound deadening products, and then proceeded to assume or manufacture his own 'facts' to link those two real facts together in some sinister plot. Manufactured facts like that the testing is almost impossible for the average person to reproduce/verify. His bias and the flaws in his accusations, much like his against me, were then, and are now, obvious.

So running a testing and review site on my own dime for 5 years so that I could later develop my own products and sell then with the lowest markups in the industry was my diabolical plan? That would make me an idiot. I mean, doing it in the first place sort of does make me an idiot, but conceiving a scheme like that ahead of time would make it purely comical. I've found that accusations like this say a lot more about what's in the heart of the accuser than any objective reality.

Speaking in absolutes: "i exposed don aka rudy for what he is" instead of: "seems fishy", or something like that also says more about the speaker than the target. Interestingly, some of the participants in these creation vs. evolution threads follow that exact pattern. They represent a position that I thought had been in decline since the dark ages. I call it aggressive Christianity. That's an oxymoron to me. It's marked by an extreme us vs. them mentality that extends to other Christian variants that are just slightly different than the aggressive Christian's. All efforts to reconcile faith and science are rejected as heresy. Worse, any means can be justified in the pursuit of the approved ends, including dishonesty. If your faith requires you to abandon your principles you have bigger problems than what other people believe. In a further irony, these are the same people who look for ways to legislate their beliefs without seeing that this demonstrates a lack of faith in itself.
