Curious what causes it? Obviously something probably touching inside the amp. This chick said her was blown and blew out smoke. Fuses in the amp are fine. Fuse up front is blown so I ask are you sure it was smoking she goes yeah. So with radio and truck off. keys not even in it. Replace the fuse up front it sparks and takes about 1 to 2 seconds to blow... I was like that is odd maybe power wire is cut in the truck somewhere. I walk around the back where the hatch is open and it is fill with smoke with smoke still pouring out the amp I was like WTF. doubt it matters but in case somebody is curious which amp it is a crunch PZI 1500

I had my Directed 1100D go up in flames as soon as I plugged in the remote wire. It burnt up a few FETs, which is probably what happened to the amp you're talking about. Happens quite often when the FETs aren't in direct contact with the heatsink.

EDIT : Have you opened up the amp yet?

That's mine.

Oh just seen the edit... No I didn't. I wanted to but it was under warranty from our store and those **** if this seal is tampered with voids warranty stickers... grr i hate amps with those.I swear I think they just don't to see how junky the amp is j/p lol. She fried two of these amps now and I have seen 2 others come back. out of the last 6 amps to come back 4 of them have been those amps.... Starting to worry about the quality. and why does it matter if they aren't connected directly to the heat sinks?

seems like since it has happened before, that it has to be something currently in the car installed wrong. Who did the wiring job?

Not I but I did double check it and everything was perfect in the wiring. I really was surprised. The amp is mounted to the box. i just wonder if there is something that shook loose. and install would have nothing to do with amp shorting out
