Hey,

I know im probably gonna get burned on this question, but, i have 3 10 inch ev golds....i know most people hate them, but in particular i like them for some reason... but would anyone have any suggestions on were to put them....i am already using the rear deck so thats out and the car is a 1985 bmw 318i, which is only 2 doors, so the space is pretty limited. the only other place can think of is the back seat like fiberglass into the corners....any other suggestions?

eric

put them in some cabinets for outdoor concert use.

please dont put them in a vehicle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Yeah, I agree with the above user. As I soon as I saw the word EV, I thought to myself 9/10 this person is from RI. God I hate how everyone has EV's blaring around here. They don't sound good at all, considering they are concert speakers designed for midrange and everyone uses them full range (and maybe cut the lows out). They sound like crap like this, and really don't make a system sound good. This, considering a "good" sounding system should be well balanced and not screeching.

Sorry for my rant.

To answer your question, mount them however you want...most I know that have them, run them free air through their back deck.

Me too, and I'm not even close to RI at all....LOL. But it seems, from the forums, that using EV in a vehicle is primarily a Rhode Island thing, and everyone who mentions wanting to do it, or knows of people doing it is located in RI.

Anyways, what frequency range did you plan on running them? If using them for anything other than subbass, I would suggest not using them, as it sounds like you are not going to be able to properly place or aim them.

i definatley plan on crossing them at about 125 or 160 i would not sue them for subbass, but yes i know most people that use evs are from rhode island....probably because theres a car audio store that has begun selling selling them alot cheaper than you can get them anywere else...(MP'S Electronics) the only reason why i got three is because i got ana amzing deal on them....but yea i have decided to fiberglass new side panels because my windows dont go down they pop out to the sides.....i have one other question htough...i finsihed the fiberglass mold for the back of it. Now the i have to do the front, i was originally going to just fiberglass it and then sue body filler and things and then i relized that that would be a shit load of work because i am going to have them leathered so that they would match the interior of the car, but the more i thought about it could i just cut a peice of 1/2 mdf and fiberglass the fiberglass peice to it? idk seems like it would save me a ton of work but i dont know, has anyone done door panels before?

Yes, cut a piece of MDF for the front baffle. Then fiberglass that baffle to the fiberglass pod. MDF is much stronger than 'glass for flat surfaces. The only time 'glass really has an advantage over MDF is for creating curved peices. Always use MDF instead of 'glass for flat panels and baffles.

So you plan on having these play up to 160hz? Or you are going to be highpassing them at 160hz?

yea, would 1/4 mdf be strong enough? or should i go with the 1/2....and i will most likely only ahve them playing the tones above say 125 or so....idk really know but i do know that i dont want them to sound all muddy and whatnot...that wouldnt be that bad would it?

1/4" material would be too thin. You'd want atleast 1/2".

Also...I think it would sound horrible having those large speakers located behind you playing the midrange frequencies. It will completely destroy any sense of staging and imaging. But I guess if you are only going for "loud", and not "good sounding while being loud", it'll work for you. It's not something I'd ever do, or recommend. And I can tell you right now I personally think it would sound horrid. But, hey, whatever works for you.....

yea,

im kindalooking for it sound good while its being loud not just being loud....is there any way to just angle the speakers or would i have to fiberglass the front for that?

I got to agree with the delusional psychotic on this one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif Drivers playing that high of frequency, with any authority. Is gonna poop all over anything resembling imaging you had before you put them in. Ib in the lower front part of the doors out of the question ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

honestly, unless you can put them in the front of the vehicle in the kickpanels, door, or dash, and bandpass them from like 80hz to maybe 3khz, and match them with a really mellow tweeter and get a good active crossover on them i would think its going to sounds like crap.

EV's can not do fullrange well in a car. they need proper enclosures, proper crossover networks, proper staging, and proper aiming. putting them in the rear deck with a highpass cap 6cb\oct passive is not going to make them sound good. it will just make them loud and extremly harsh sounding.

by the way, what size ev's were they?

you might be able to make a cab for the three of them to spec and get a amp head and used them for a PA or a guitar amp lol.

honestly, unless you can put them in the front of the vehicle in the kickpanels, door, or dash, and bandpass them from like 80hz to maybe 3khz,

I wouldn't run them past 1.6khz (assuming they even sound good playing up that high).....they'll start beaming around there.

Excuse me for not being from RI, but what is an EV exactly?
they are fullrange\midrange drivers. usually people buy 10~12 inch speakers. EV is a company - much like Kleenex sells tissues, but people ask for a "kleenex" and not a tissue //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

and squeak, i said MAYBE - all depending on how the install is done, what kind of tweeter he has to mate, what crossover slopes he has to work with, ect ect. i definatly wouldnt run any higher than 3k.

but then again, i wouldnt run them anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
