Estranged Wiring 101

I have learned a few covert wiring methods that kick major rear end. But the most important one I have forgotten.

Does anyone know how to go about grounding the RCA cables? I learned from a guy who moved to England to go to college and I can't for the life of me remember it. But just for S&Giggles here's some of the wiring methods I learned from him:

Cold weld: Pound with a hammer and sandwich the filaments of the power wire after sodering it in the terminal. You can get sometimes 30% more power to your amp.

Sanded connections: The more surface area available on a connection, the more juice that can get to it. Spray the sanded connections with brake cleaner before tightening them and you can get a near perfect electrical connection that won't corrode.

Fat speaker wire: Run at least 8 gauge wire to your high power subwoofers from the amp. Might not improve top end power but will increase bottom end and reduce amount of power lost.

Cap it off: Always run at least one capacitor, at least! Ground it separately and run the pos+ in line to the amp. Has innumerable benefits and doesn't hurt anything, unless you happen to get zapped by it.

Speaker Limits: If you have a Sub that can't handle certain frequencies, eliminate them! In the case of his 3 18" Cerwin Vega Strokers, anything in between 30 and 300htz was off limits. (Sold them though cause they blew the windows out of his van)

Well, that's all I can remember. If you can help me out or want to debate with this guy's degree in engineering, that's what these forums are for.

All those recommendations will add to the performance of the electrical connections. Sanding of the wires really doesn't do a whole lot for increasing SA (a little maybe)....the main benefit of doing this is simply to "clean" the wires, along with the brake cleaner. Personally there is some better stuff out there to clean, condtion and protect your wiring....I use Pro Gold....but brake clean will work as a cleaning agent. Also make sure, after you have cleaned your connection, not to handle them since the oil on your hands is enough to get them "dirty" again. Spraying brake clean on wires will not prevent corrosion.....oxidation is the main cause of erosion and the only way to keep something from oxidizing is to keep it away from oxygen!! So a sealer of some sort would be your best bet....I use ProGold for this, too.

Grounding RCA's....Never really had a need to do it, if the rest of your system is grounded properly you shouldn't have a problem.
