EQ/Processor/X-Over question

I have a HU that doesnt have a "Sub out".. It has a "non fading out". The problem is.. When i want to make sound adjustments to my components, it also adjusts my sub freq (very anoying). I installed a fairly old x-over to see if it would help but HU adjustments still effect the subs sound..

I was looking at processors, EQ's and X-overs but i cant tell from reading specs if using the "non fading out" from my HU as the "sub input" on a new device will give me a "sub out" that is independent from any changes made at the HU.

If u know of a device that will allow me to use my "non fading out" and get dedicated sub control. Please list that device. This issue is driving me nuts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Thanks!

J.

If adjusting the EQ in the h/u also affects the non-faded output, no amount of processing downstream in the signal chain will ever change that. You need to avoid using the non faded output from the h/u. Just buy a processor/xover that has a single (full range) input, it will have its own subwoofer output.

If you buy an outboard crossover you would NO longer be using the rear non-fading output on your deck. You would run just the fronts to the x-over and use the x-overs sub outputs.

Everyone has their favorite brands. Alpine, Pioneer and Audio Control are a few good brands to start with, but there are many more. Watch the classified section for a good deal.

edit: You also need to decide if you want a dash mounted/controlled unit, or a trunk/remote mounted setup.

I have a kicker kx3 crossover that sits now, but it is nice in that it has its own remote gain knob for the sub out. I was able to get my system setup pretty nicely with it, even when eq'ing. Otherwise I would recommend an alpine pxah701/ruxc701. You do all the sound adjustments through it, but you will go over 350 for it and the controller.

if your looking to spend that much, why not buy a head unit capable of all these things?? such as 9887, 880prs, etc...
When i bought my Clarion Max675VDII i wanted a double din DVD player that had an above average iPod interface. At that time Clarion sold a 5.1 sound processor that i was planning on adding later. Well.. Between then and now Clarion has stopped production and support for the DVH-940N. I cant find one anywhere so i am looking for a diff solutions.

A new HU is not out of the question. I just dont have $2100 for the one i really want..

Am not and prolly wont ever be a fan of Kenwood.. I looked at the Alpine IVA-W505 ($1000) the other day and it looked interesting along with the Sony XAV-W1 ($800). The Pioneer Z3 ($1800) is also nice. What i have works well for the money i paid for it. A new HU is currently a nice pipe dream //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif .

x2. I was going to suggest this. You can get last year's model PRS 880 for cheap, and it's just as good as the new 800PRS (no new major features). And then you get a 16-band EQ and time alignment. Google DEH-P880PRS for prices.

But since you want a double-din DVD that narrows your choices greatly. Not many cost effective models out there that offer good digital processors. If you want to stay with the DVD player I'd look into external digital processors (not crossovers). These will give you EQ, crossover and time alignment. I'm not familiar with any brands.
