I wanted to buy the audiocontrol EPIC-160 for my truck, I have 2-15"L5's in a ported box powered by hifonics bxi2006d, they say its a good bass boost and the

db meter will be nice

My question is have any of you guys used the EPIC-160 or even the EPICENTER

and how good is the db meter and would it be a noticable inprovement in bass

I've used the epicenter concert series with awful results. The increase in low bass response almost doubled, but at the cost of sound quality. The bass it provides is kinda fake and hallow sounding.........I blame most/all of this on the fact that I am using a fairly crappy box. The great application of this unit is when you listen to a lot of rock or oldies. Even FM radio has some kick in it. I hate the results with Rap and R&B.

As for the db meter I don't have any experience with them. From what I hear they are off like 3-6 dbs +/- at around 140db. This is only hearsay, but most of the people I talk to know there stuff.

in certain situations it's "night and day" better sq and spl wise- in others it is not. if you are using other bass boosting processing it will sound ridiculous 98% of the time and potentially harm equipment.

i have used them in a half dozen past installs, and have a "model 20" with epiceter function built-in in my latest in my daily driven mercedes.

in general i would spend the money on something different unless you are already very happy with your overall system- and even then it's basically extraneous.
