i have alot of really high pitched engine whine from my door and rear speakers which are wired to my head unit i grounded the head unit to the mounting bolts hoping that would eliminate it but it didnt work. what else could be causing this whine? there not wired to an amp so i dont think it could be power lines along signal lines or anything. what should i do?

oh and from what ive read i believe it is alternator whine.

so i checked it, i only have one ground lead that runs to the bottom engine bracket and thats it. its rusted and corroded at the engine bracket connection. i got 0.9 ohms resistance of of it. it kept bouncing up and down up and down. so i should probably make a new ground? one going to engine and chassis?

EDIT: sorry, im just retarted apparently, i do have two leads off the batt ground running to what seems to be a bolt on my transmission and a small bolt on the body. i have a transverse mounted engine and my battery is mounted on my driver side at the back of the engine so i guess for shortest ground they ran it to the transmission. i tried sanding all the contacts and cleaning them up but that didnt really do anything at all. what would my next play from here be?? re run my ground system? and i do have lots of resistance, 3-5 ohms just from wire end to wire end. wire end to the bolt where the ground is bolted is between 25-40 ohms!!!! im betting that this is far to much.....

wow thats a lot, Im having the same problem is why I mentioned it. But I'm only seeing 2-4 ohms.

I got some new stuff on order to see if it will fix it.

please let me know if the new parts fixs it, if it works for you ill go out and pick up some new leads and such. thanks!

Well dude I got my new RCA cables in and that was the problem with the engine whine. I still will be changing out my ground leads since that stuff came in as well but I already fixed the problem.

its curious tho, i dont have engine whine through any amplified speakers, just the ones that are connected to my head unit.

Then I don't really seen the need to run a ground directly from the alt, but given your situation, it can't hurt.

Sounds like a ground loop, especially with the hokey ground. I'd ground to the body, do the big three. Run a ground from the radio to the amp's...
