Engine noise/ How much $$ to fix

I had some components and an amp installed (running off my factory HU) and I am getting engine noise. I only hear it when the engine is on and it gets louder when I hit the gas petal. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem fixed at shop and how much it cost to fix. Circuit City did the install and they told me that there's nothing they can do about it, that all cars have some engine noise.

go back, talk to the manager, and demand that they fix it..

taht is total BS..

a PROPER install should NEVER introduce engine noise..

go back, yell and scream till tehy fix it..

tell tehm tio double cehck the grounds, make sure the wires are run properly (opposite sides of teh car, enver running alongside each toehr for more than a few inches, if they ahve to cross, amke sure its at a 90 degree angle, and go back and make tehm fix it, tahts teh jsit of it all...

I will try bringing the car back, but I think it might be more trouble than it's worth. The installer said that engine noise is present in all cars (even competetion cars), so I did some research and found that statement to be completely false, so that's why I'm thinking of getting it fixed elsewhere, because I really don't want to deal with them anymore. But I guess it won't hurt to go up there one more time to see if I can get them to fix it.

i ahd the smae thing.

i foudn out it was false, went back and yelled and screamed till tehy fixed it..

it was Future Shop, teh canadian version of Best Buy, and they ended up fixing it for nothing..

trust me, go to the manager (try the install bay manager first) and explain to him calmly..

make sure to point out the ineptitude of teh installer and the BS he was feeding you..

if he is a reasonable individual, he will ahve it fixed for tyou...

i mean, it costs him nothing at all...

if not, tehn ***** and scream, and go to teh store manager until it gets fixed..

its awlys worth your time..

Had the same thing happen to me. I took my car back and demanded that they fix it. They did it for me. Don't settle for that bullshit, make circuit city fix it if they were the ones who ****ed it up.

I will definitely talk to the manager and have them fix it. I didn't realize that this was so common. Thanks for making me come to my senses.

no problem dood.

the first shop i ever went to did the same kind of BS and i just sed fuk it paid em off and never went back..

teh second place (future shop) i just bought a set of comps and decided to let tehm install them, adn whilst tehy were in teh car, they could inmstall my zapco, why not i figured..

tehy messed up good, so i brought it back, lol.

That's what convinced me to do the owrk myself or with someone esle from now on

I took my car back to Circuit City and spoke with a different installer and he told me that it's a problem with the ground and that they'll fix it for free. But I'm still not going back there ever again after this, because they let me drive off knowing that there was engine noise in the first place.

Next time it would be a good idea to go to a local shop that specializes in car audio. I also found out the hard way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Here's the latest. I went back to Circuit City to drop my car off (thinking I was going to get it fixed) and spoke the assistant installation manager (he did the initial install), and he told me that the engine noise is not caused the ground, even though he never checked the ground. He said that the engine noise is caused by running aftermarket components with the factory HU. He also said that upgrading to a high end line level convertor might be able to fix the problem. I think he's full of shit. But the problem is, as he pointed out to me, on the back of the sales invoice, it says "Engine Noise Excluded" from the warranty of the installation, and this applies to all their installations. So I can't really do anything about it. So I'm just going to take this experience as a lesson learned, but now I have to find a place that will fix the engine noise at a reasonable price. I had a gut feeling Circuit City would be dicks about it. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

This is DEFINITELY a good reason to do all of your installing yourself. It's not hard and you don't have to pay any dumbshit installers any money.

Check and see if the amp's power wire is running alongside the RCA's/input wires. Make sure they're not.

I have my RCA's and speaker wires running down one side of my car, and the power wires on the other. I have no problems

wonderbread dont take this as an insult because it really isnt... but are you dyslexic i can barely stand reading one of your sentences.... dam is all i can come up with at the time

What do you guys think about using a ground loop isolator? I've called several places and that's what they suggest using. BTW, I think the noise is alternator whine.
