Engine Ground big three still dimming??

hey guys i just did the big three on my girlfriends car 2000 mercury cougar. i am only running a 12w7 with a 1000/1 v2. i am getting heavy dimming still.

i have

stinger spv70 upfront

1/0 gauge positive run to the back,

1/0 gauge ground in the trunk stripped paint and made a ground

1/0 gauge alternator to batt +

1/0 gauge battery neg to ground (stock ground under battery)

1/0 gauge engine to battery neg(stock)

i left the stock 8 gauge power run from the alt,

i left the stock 8 gauge battery neg to chassis and added a 1/0 gauge, (i did not strip the paint figured the stock ground is good, but now i think about it i will go back and strip it.)

what is weird the stock wiring for engine to ground was 8 gauge and ran from engine to battery terminal neg, i just added a 1/0 gauge run along with it.

should i reroute that to chassis or it is the same since the neg leads to the chassis

before the big three i was getting heavy dimming and voltage drop to around 11.8. usually stayed around 12v-12.7v.

what is my next step,

i was thinking about adding a battery to the back, i have an extra spv70 should i throw it in the back without an isolator and see if it make a difference. i wanted to use a small battery like a kinetik hc800.

i plan to add a jl 450/4 v2 for the highs and focal polyglass component and pair of 6.5" in the rear

Mehhhhhhhhhhhh you never need that much power and that much bass. Remove amps and subs get small amp and one or 2 10's call it a day.
dont post again dumbfvck

put the extra in the back

the isolater is not necessary

2x 10"s will take more power than that 1000/1 can produce.

Odds are OP: your stock alternator is small as hell.

Check online to see how many amperes it is. If it's a 90 ampere, then you're screwed. Has to be at least 120 amperes.

Also, make sure your battery is still good, and make sure the cylinders have water.

I'd recommend adding a 0/1 ga ground from the engine block directly to the chassis. The battery might be a little small for 1000 watts plus everything needed to supply the vehicles demands. Since you already have an extra battery try adding it to the rear with a 1/0 ga run, and see if that helps. If not then the alt might be the problem.

Awesome guys thanks for the quick posts,

i have some answers to your questions

the alternator is a 130amp, i went to rockauto and some other websites and checked a 2000 merc cougar v6 would have the 130 amp versus the 90 amp for the 4 banger.

i have the stinger upfront which i got from bumpin buick and it looked pretty new overall and rested at 12.8ish when i got it, i threw it onto a cascade power supply 75 amp smart power supply overnight and then used it in the car couple days there after.

I ran a 1/0 from engine stock location to the battery along with stock 8 gauge.

that is what i find wierd everywhere else it says direct to chassis, but ultimately the battery goes to the chassis. will not stripping the stock battery - chassis grounding point make that big of a diff.

i plan to use the spv70 in my car 08 crossfire, but it is in the shop getting a ecu swap.

i can use the battery in the time being to see if it makes a big difference in dimming, but first i want to see if the voltage stabilized at all with the big three.

i imagined some sort of battery would be needed to stiffen and planned on using a smaller battery like a kinetik 800 to stiffen, kinda like 800 farad cap lol FTW type R YO!! lol..

so would do you guys think a battery in the back and do i really need a new 1/0 ground run to the back and relocation of the stock 1/0 ground to battery and move it direct to chassis. Also i will check resistance with a dmm on the ground and see what it is and report back. i will need to use a extension lead of some sort and will check the resistance and subtract from total and report back

thanks

How can he be an audio fanatic and say that a single jl is too loud?
maybe hes a sq type of guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

and to the OP i think its a bad ground somewhere.. it shouldnt be given that much dimming unless at full tilt, and even then.. it shouldnt be too bad

Damn SQ guys, never like loud bass.

Damn SQ guys, never like loud bass.
im going back sealed.. im more a sq kind of guy myself, but i do prefer more bass than "flat", just not peaky bass anymore.. =\

plus i dont really have much of a choice, my alt wont let me get "loud" lol

actually i should say I.B. next, finally its almost spring and i have time to do it =]

ok sorry bout thread jacking.. as the OP was saying..

Yeah i am thinking a i need to check the ground and see if that resolves anything,

To the dude that thinks a single JL is too much LOL fail!!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

Not true. I'm about SQ, but depending on my mood or the type of music I enjoy bass applied in extreme amounts.
But anyone who has 1kw+ sub systems and stock main speakers should be shot in the groin to prevent them from breeding.
i think people should be screened first for what type of music you listen to before you can own even a stock radio.
