Enclosure size for a 12" RE SX?

Purchased a single RE SX 12", on there website it shows the recommended enclosure size, which is compact-1.5@35hz or optimal-2.0@33hz. Both ported. Now I am new to the car audio, but when I have been looking for a box, they seem to be all measured is square foot. Now the first numbers in there recomendations, 1.5 and 2.0, are those both square foot size? Which would be better, the larger or smaller box?

Go for 2 cubic feet @ 32hz. That's a good place to start.
