Enclosure Size For 6.5" Woofer

I want to replace the OE 6x9s in the rear deck of a sedan with 6.5" components.

keep_hope_alive pointed out in the precursor to this thread (specs and images of my current setup can be found here) that the subwoofers in the trunk could distort or damage speakers mounted in the rear deck. So I came up with an idea. It may or may not be feasible, so I thought I'd run it by ED&CH gurus first.

My plan is to first make a MDF adapter so I can mount the 6.5" drivers where the 6x9s went. This adapter would screw or bolt into the metal of the rear deck with the speaker facing up into the cabin, like it would normally - behind the rear seats. This leaves the bottom of the cone exposed through the basket, so any SP from the subs would reach this, so I go the idea to make an enclosure that would fit around the parts of the speaker that are exposed in the trunk and would meet with the metal. Depending on how big this is I might be able to leave some room around it so the trunk can "breathe".

Is this feasible?

Would this ruin the sound of the speaker? Would it flat-out ruin the speaker?

If a box can be built, how big does this box have to be?

I have some experience with enclosure building. I built the sub box, but their spec sheet simply gave me sealed volume to aim for and I was able to attain it after calculating for displacement.

I understand a volume can be calculated using the tech specs of the speakers, but I have zero experience with this.

The components in question are Kenwood Kfc-P709PS and the tech specs are as follows:

I'm going to skip trying to mount them where the 6x9s were.

Right now I'd just like to make a simple box for them that I'll secure in the back somewhere.

I still have no idea how to figure out how big of a box I'd need.

It's not a show car or anything, it's a sedan, and there are people in the back often enough that I'd like to let them enjoy the music as well. I sat back there to see - or rather hear - what it would be like for them. Certain genres are alright, but as soon as the subs in the back are turned up the music is drowned out in the back, but not in the front.

This is the old 6x9. It's not even a particularly bass heavy song. I probably could've gotten better footage, but this was all I needed to see to consider putting whatever I replaced these with elsewhere. Keep in mind that this speaker is unplugged.

That would be ideal, but the rear doors aren't the same shape as the front, which have a contour in the design to accommodate them. I'm not saying it's impossible, but at the very least it would require cutting through all the materials, including the metal frame. If it doesn't fit I'd have to build outwards. I'm not ruling it out; I'll keep it as my fallback. Thanks for the input.

You can buy some spacer rings. I've used 1" rings I got of Ebay or Amazon. Now I just cut out rings with a Rotozip and circle tool. Works great.

I first wouldnt put anything back there, but the best application I have heard was a fullrange not a componet set. The fullrange driver didnt have the pronounced tweeter or high end like a component set and you dont have to worry about wiring or passive xovers. Fullranges rolloff quicker and would be easier to mount in the door if you go that way. I would do something cheap back there because the focus will still be your front stage.

I have also seen a person mount a sealed 6 x 9 box under the rear deck to seal the speaker and not have any affect from the subs. The time I saw it, the guys bolted and siliconed the box under the rear deck and mounted the speaker on top to the deck. I am sure if you look you can find a 6 inch box just like those 6 x 9 boxes. My local flea market sells them for 20 bucks.
