Elemental Designs e12a.22 subwoofer review: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

-------------------------------------------

I bought this subwoofer over a year ago direct from eD after lurking around places like CAF and SIN, not really knowing too much about what was out there. Ordering direct from Ben wasn't an issue at all, and I installed the sub in my van initally powered by an Avionixx 800.2. The sub was dropped in a custom-built enclosure built to eD's specs - 1.5 cubic feet tuned to 28Hz. I used this setup for almost half a year, until a few months ago I upgraded my amplifiers to a set of dual PG Tantrums - a 500.2 for the front stage coaxials and a 1200.1 to power the subwoofer. This current setup of the e12a.22 receiving around 1kW from the PG produces an excellent combination of SQ and SPL, and the low tune of the enclosure really brings out the quality of the sub. I listen to mostly classic rock (Zeppelin, Boston, Clapton, Dylan, Springsteen) not things exactly known for bass, but double kicks and intricate basslines are no problem for this setup. When I want to get things really loud, material from sources such as the Crystal Method, 4 Strings, and even the occansional rap song can make the walls of the van flex and shake with the sheer output. Plus, the flat cone just looks sweet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you can ever find one used, they're a solid choice for a high output, high quality subwoofer driver. Definitely worth it.

Things I like about the driver:

1. Excellent sound quality and output potential.

2. Small box requirements.

3. The flat Nomex cones are teh sexah //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Things I don't like:

1. Not quite as much power handling as I like, heh.

2. They don't make them anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

FWIW.
