I'm taking the apprenctice Electrician's test soon and was wondering what to expect. I'm not sure if it's just a aptitude test or general knowledge. Just wanna make sure I'm going to be ready for it....

if you stick your fingers in a light socket it hurts hella bad
whats funny is when i was a little kid i would sticc my finger in light bulb sockets on purpose only because i knew it would generate a weird feeling. i never understood that it was electricity. as soon as i got a little older and i started to recognize pain more, i understood that it wasnt a good feeling at all and that i shouldnt put myself through that. LOL. weird huh

Well for starters what kind of electrician? I was union for 5 yrs with ibew in doing fiber optics and powerlines etc.

But then I went and took my test and I am a cert commercial electrician as well for factorys.

It really all depends but hr pay around here is not as much as other area's. It will depend if you are union or not as well. I would go union because then you will get rate jobs.

Indoor housing etc. Most I know make about $20 a hr nonunion.

Outdoor powerlines etc- work from ave 34-48 hr.

Indoor factory is around 20-25 hr

I started off as a flagman at 18 for $14 a hr, then went to groundmand for $24 hr but then it changed were I was working down in nyc is one of the highest rates.

Yeah, most Electricians or I&E at my job make around $22-26 hour with or without Union....

It really depends on what test you take because you can get a license for either or all of Residential, Commercial, and Industrial.

My father has his Master License and his friend in Indianapolis uses it for his business. So, my dad's license is still valid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

He was a Civil Engineer after we came to FL (before he was a Electrical Engineer just changed job title for his new job). Now he is the Chief of Operations at the US Army Corps of Engineers here in FL. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you like electronics, it most definitely will pay the bills. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok I got an email from my friend he is IBEW. Working in MD he gets paid 17 a hour. He said starting out its 9 or 10, didnt say how long that lasted. And he had this to say about the test. "test is stupid nothing to do with the trade except math." I dont know what that means but theres a little info from him.
