Electrical Problem

I have a slight problem with the boat install I have been working on so hopefully someone can help...Anyway, The mechanic was installing the High Output alternator and found out that it will not fit (hits the bottom of the boat). The problem is that the HO one is an old style chevy one and the new GM's take a smaller case. Anyway does anyone know where I can find Coast Guard Approved High Output alternators? I am running 3000 wattsRMS and need to figure something out. If I cannot find one does anyone have any suggestions on how I can power this stuff. I was thinking I can run dual batteries with an isolator so that the starting battery is always fresh? Is there something else you can recomend, the stock alternator is 70 amps. I have put 1500 watts on a 70 amp alt bf on a single gel cell. Would I need a CAP or are they just a waste as I ahve heard. Any help would be great...Thanks

caps are a waste, even though i have one. u could always get the old one rewound, although i don't know how much that costs or how high they can rewind it to. and adding extra batteries will only put a bigger strain on the alternator, extra batteries are for bumping when the car(boat) is off

Have you looked into maybe locating the alternator in a different spot? Maybe getting some customs brackets made. I am pretty sure that is possible seeing some spl cars run multiple alternators.
