Lincoln was a very prominent and respected Republican politician and he raised taxes to pay for the war during his time but he wasnt spending money like it had no end........Government spending is NOT FREE........it is a proven fact that when Government spending goes up private spending goes down......the fix for this problem is for the gov to stop passing crippling azz regulations so businesses will look to expand and hire.........have you guys not noticed that in the last 4 years the gov has spent billions if not trillions and unemployment is climbing......do you think that is just a coincidence?..........unemployment is going to do EXACTLY what it done under FDR if they keep up the spending.......our true unemployment rate right now is close to 11% because the 7.9% they are projecting is leaving out the millions of people that have given up looking for work.....

Look what the ACA is doing right now and its not even fully implimented yet.....Papa Johns and several other businesses have decided to cut hours and employees to dodge the crippling mandates......their profit margins for some of their franchises has gone from 10% down to 2%.....that will make it hard to even keep their doors open but GOD only knows they aint paying enough yet according to some.......I surely hope the employers a lot of you guys work for dont find out that you consider them the enemy.......

I am just stating that raising taxes will not lower the deficit unless this government stops all of the over spending...both parties are guilty of it......if we confiscated every dollar earned above $250,000 it would run our gov for 138 days.......so i want to know how raises taxes helps if you dont stop the spending......its kinda like cutting a hole in your aorta and then instead of patching the hole you rob blood from everyone else to feed an IV........we can not spend our way into prosperity
I never mentioned raising the tax rates. Personally, I think that would be the right move, but I didn't say that in any of my previous posts. The purpose behind my posts were along the lines of keeping the tax rates where they currently sit. This includes letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire.

Aight i misunderstood ya.........a lot of others want taxes raised even further and that will do nothing as long as they are spending like they are......my beef is with every politician in Washington right now regardless of party......I love this Nation and they are destroying it one day at a time.....I want my grandbabies to have the same opportunities that I have had so I am very passionate.......no HATE here just passion for the American people and this good ole US of A...........

Word. I'm with you. Like I said, I think a tax hike would be in the best interest of the country, but I understand that not everyone thinks the same. We are not in a great position right now, but it seems like you certainly putting the best interest of the country over personal vendettas against the opposition. It stinks that politicians cannot seem to work together. But this is the reality. Career politicians. The wealthy fund political campaigns. The politicians work for the folks who fund their campaigns. This is where the biggest issue appears for me. The concentration of wealth is trending towards the top. The way politics in this country are advancing, the people with the money are going to dictate how policies are going to form. It's a slippery slope.

Which way would you like to have it? Keep spouting off about the federal deficit, yet continue to hate when taxation issues appear. Wealth distribution is trending towards the top, the middle/lower class is being squandered. You seem so worried about the struggling economy. How will wealth concentrated in a small portion of the population help? We already have a goods/service surplus. The middle class ultimately pushes demand. Demand pushes employment.
We are in a global economy now. The middle class in the US is just one customer segment.

Yes, it is. It also happens to be a segment that is disappearing. Like I have said, the wealthy will be well off regardless of regulation. The increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of the one percent worries me. As it currently stands, they control the candidates. The voice of the majority is becoming smaller and smaller.

Unfortunately, the SC got it wrong with both Kelo and Citizen's United (different subject matter for each case, but wrong either way). I don't think Obama will do much about either because he gets money from businesses and unions. It's going to **** for a while until we figure out ways to reduce election spending to just individuals to a small amount...like $2,500 or something. Until then, let the highest bidder win.
