Efficiency

Two subs (Sub A and Sub B) are being tested... They are identical except for their efficiency ratings. Sub A has a 92dB efficiency rating and Sub B has only an 85dB efficiency rating. They are each seperately put in the same vehicle in the same box at the same wattage to be compared. What is the difference in sound between Sub A over Sub B. There's gotta be someone here who can answer this...

i think that if a sub is more effiecient it will need less power to make it loud. say you give the 85db sub 600 watts and the 92db sub 500 the 92db would be just as loud if not louder because it's more effiecient. there really is no difference in sound it's just a more effecient sub needs less power to get it moving. i'm not sure if this is correct but i think it is.

As for mathematics,

92db sensitivity + 200watts = 89db sensitivity + 100watts. For best buy subs, and shit like that (under say 500w rms) it can make a decent difference, but over 1000w it's nearly unnoticable to a properly powered sub.

On the other hand, higher efficiency USUALLY means less SQ.

basically
with the same amount of power the higher efficiency sub will be louder.
Basically but the difference is that the higer the effeciency the louder you will be able to play them with a low Fs rating. (for those of you that dont know Fs is frequency) The Lower the better and the louder the better too right. Also yes, you can hear the difference in frequency.

Even if that were true, if one were flawed, then it would no longer be identical, now would it ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
The factors that influence this test would be. In therms of consumer market you are right you cant get 2 subs with different sensitivity.

efficiency is nice.. but i'd be much more concerned with power compression..

also.. where is the efficiency coming from? at the forsaking of low frequency extension? Use of extremely small, lightweight parts?

what enclosure will be used for testing?

its not as easy as looking at the db spec and going.. ITS GONNA BE LOUDA!
