efficiency?

I was searching around the forums about the orion 2500D and i read a few threads that said there not very efficient and i would have to ugrade my alt ( currently have a stock 140amp alt) and that stuff. I have enough money saved up for 2 15 in. rl-s's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif but not enough for a $300-400 HO alt. I was looking for an efficient amp that does 2000+ watts at 1 ohm. I have about 500 saved up for the amp. will buy refurbs and off ebay. Also is any amp more efficient than another amp. I Read that the xx series from hifonics uses super D class and is more efficient than normal D class amps. Is that true and how are these amps. Overrated? underated? not looking to ugrade alt. Will do the big-3 and maybe a yellow top if that helps any.

well 140a is pretty good size but to probably get the full power on it you are going to have to get an xtra batt or somethin along those lines, and a hO alt might be something to look foward to in future

Look at it this way; Even if the 2000w amp were 100% efficient (which no amp is) and your car ran a constant 14.4V (which doubtful it will), simple ohms law tells us that it'd pull 140A at full tilt. And that's the "perfect world" scenario. When you are running big power like that, there is no way to get around electrical upgrades. You need power to make power, plain and simple.

The new RF mono amps are pretty darn efficient. I've seen a few birthsheets of the T10001bd (rated 1000w @ 1ohm, but the birthsheets are in the 1700w range) that show them to be ~85% efficient......which is pretty much the top tier of what you'll find efficiency wise. Not many, if any, amps more efficient than that.

But if your budget doesn't allow electrical upgrades, then you might aswell not get ahead of yourself and scale back your system plans now.
