Does efficiency rating, such as 89db for a 15 vs like an spl oriented 15 with a rating of 93 bd's like a mojo limit or show potential of total output.example would be x brand(mach 5 ixl) 15 on 1000rms vrs. y brand memphis mojo)15 on same 1000rms.all things being equal, each in its optimum enclosure,etc.etc.etc. thanks for the help.no bashing please, just curious about this and other peoples real world expiriences.

same power + higher sensitivity = louder, assuming all else is equal

But, all else is NEVER equal.
In a Lab, yes same power + higher sensitivy = louder. But in a car, which subwoofer will be louder depends on a number of things.
True, which is why realistically sensitivity isn't a very good spec to go off of, but I think he at least somewhat realizes these things based on the way he asked

for true.

Most specs are just made up garbage anyway lol.

I've always trusted real world testing more than what WinISD says sounds good lol

yes i realize all isnt always equal, but the reason im asking is i was thinkin of doing 1 15 with as high output as possible on 1500rms. last year a friend let me use a memphis mojo 15,and it was very loud vs. the 15 that i had in there on the same amp. he sold that sub so im lookin at other subs with similar output but now i have over 3x the power i did then.so i want to get as much output as possible without completely losing sq on 1 15.thanks

What sub did you have before the mojo? Reason I ask is the Mojo I used to run ( Q1 ) was horribly ineffecient, due to the higher mms of the coil, but did help to lower fs ) If i was you I would look into an RE MT, as when I switched from Mojo to MT i gained over a db and went from .25 to .5 so I had less power

well i had an aq 2.5 15 and a maw 15 then tried the mojo just because i could, and it was louder to the ear, didnt TL it.lookin at 200-250 for 1 sub so i was thinkin about a sub with higher efficincy if that would help at all.kicker cvx, cheap on ebay,L7 or something in the Icon line up might be nice.maybe DD 35 or 90oo series,or hdc3 etc.etc........

Subwoofer efficiency is measure at 1khz. Does anyone in this thread play their subs at 1khz?
Exactly, it's a meaningless/non-spec for subwoofers, I definitely don't play my subs up to 1kHz, although I have played a Type R off of my home receiver at 500Hz just for the hell of it.

in theory yes but, like lilmaniac2 said there is alot more factors come into play. the vehicle will have alot to do with it.
ok. same power same vehical...well i got the point, nobody really knows.my friend that let me use the mojo ,has a dd9500 i may can borrow to check,if not i'll keep looking til i find a sub that i like and has good reviews, maybe a d1 to ohm the amp down from time to time that'll take 1200 daily which is just about all of them.I really like the look and specs on the mach 5 audio IXL -15 D2.

If finding the greatest output potential sub was as easy as comparing efficiency specs, dont you think all the top SPL guys would be running the same subs, based on that spec? Seriously dude, its time to use some common sense here. Its not that nobody here knows, its that its a much more complicated question to answer than you will allow yourself to believe.

There used to be an explanation on the JL website about why that spec meant about nothing. What it is good for is giving you an idea of how big a box it will need to get low. The lower the efficiency spec generally the smaller the box requirement for good low end extension. Part of Hoffman's Iron Law. If you want to get fairly loud down low, a higher number in efficiency is usually a bad thing.
