I'm a local kid you could say. My speakers ain't stock, and they're amped. You can't go any other way.
I just don't get it. How in good faith can a so called "custom shop" recommend 1,000 watts of subwoofer power without attempting to balance the sound out? I understand trying to make a buck, but I see way too many youngsters putting emphasis on their subwoofer and not putting enough on those frequencies above 80 Hz.
Call me old school, but I just don't get it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
That said, I miss my old systems that sounded good and got real loud with lower RMS power. Unfortunately, the cost of it was less usable trunk space. A friend of mine still has his old Savard 12" bandpass sub. I think the box is somewhere at the 7.5 cubic foot mark (ETA for a SINGLE 12" sub). Years ago he borrowed one of my Punch 150s and it sounded like his sunfire vert was going to shake itself apart.
IIRC, my two Kicker comp 10s from back in the day required 1.5 cubic feet per 10 sealed. I forgot what ported was, but it was bigger! I guess that is the shift from the good old days to now.
Old days: speakers were more efficient and required larger enclosures but finding high power amps was impossible.
Now a days: speakers are less efficient and require less space, but high power amps are the land o plenty. Plus, running a single subwoofer doesn't mean that you have to fill up 7.5 cubic feet of your 13 cubic foot trunk to get LOUD sound.
