Eclipse XA or Sony XM?

Now I know that everyone thinks Sony's are bad, and I know a bunch of people think Eclipse is good, but the Sony has much higher rms numbers. Are the numbers hyped up or does the Sony really put out more power than the Eclipse?

Eclipse XA1000 - $140

4 ohms: 320 watts x 1 chan

2 ohms: 480 watts x 1 chan

Sony XM-D9001GTR - $150

550 watts RMS x 1 chan @ 4 Ohms

900 watts RMS x 1 chan @ 2 Ohms

I''ve used the Sony XM-D9001GTR and it does not seem to be overrated, after all it is CEA Rated 550 watts RMS at 14.4 volts

Also, the Sony has an LED that tells you when the amplifier is being overdriven and the "distortion suppressor" is engaged (similar to a clipping LED) and that helps in setting gains and sending a clean signal to your sub(s).

As for the Eclipse XA1000 amplifier, I use the 2-Channel Full Range Class D version XA2000 and it pushes very clean 100 watts at 4-ohms to my MB Quart door speakers.

I also like the minimum alternator drain from the Eclipse XA amps and the fact that there is a Clipping LED that helps you set the gains is definitely a plus.

Just my $0.02, hope it helps

Get the Eclipse and you won't be sorry.
