Both,

that is there generic line of stuff. They are not bad for teh average person. But, when you know what your are listening for and get critical then you hear the Difference

Would a pyramid hu be compared to a sony xplod hu or not as good?

I think it would be about the same, although I think I would go with a Sony. Just because, Sony probably uses better components inside the HU. the Pyramids are Alpines **** line for people that Have no clue and don't want to spend money.
