Eclipse Sub......a few questions

What should tune the box to? 30hz? I've heard i should tune it higher and that it depends on the resonant frequency of my vehicle? How the hell do I find that out?

What you tune it to is just personal preference. If you are going for straight sq, tune in themid to high 20s. If you are going for sql tune in the 30s. If you can handle it sounding a little boomy and just want spl go for low to mid 40s. I tune w7 in mid to high 20s because they have plenty of output above but are a little low on output at low frequencies. It is just really personal preference on the sound you like. Imho if you want to go above 35 you really aren't doing sq subs any justice.

I have heard of tuning to the interior freq, but avoid. If your cabin gain is around 40 it is already boosted at that freq. Givind another 6 db or so at 40 will turn it into a one note wonder. Everything would most likely be ballanced until it hit 40 then it would possibly be twice as loud. Personally I tune low since output is generally lower there. That way it allows me to have the benefits of a ported box without the detraction of a boomy note that gets blown way out of proportion to the balance of the sub.

What sort of bass response are you looking for? There's no golden rule of thumb for this driver as far as tuning goes. I've had this sub in 40hz-30hz enclosures, all of which impressed me. Tell us what type of bass you want and that can help us out in giving you a suggestion

To find out the resonant frequency of your vehicle play a tone sweep in your car with a sealed box and whichever fs is the loudest would be your RF. Technically speaking this isn't the *real* RF but it's close enough and you don't have a TL

Honestly I'd like to stick to more sound quality as I think this sub will get plenty loud for me in a 4runner. The best way i can sum it up is I like clean tight bass. I want it be able to hit all the lows and keep up with a double kick drum on heavy stuff, but I also want it to be musical when its time for jack johnson, ya know? Not looking to do any spl contest or try to impress anyone.

Thing is, it can do all of that in a ported enclosure. But if you want to go sealed then do it. It's an impressive sub, whether it's sealed or ported.

Try 2.0 ft^3 @40 hz. I know it seems high but once you get it in there I think the real world tuning ends up dropping quite a bit. The Supposed 32hz box I built for it got daaaaaaamn low, and the 40hz box didn't seem that high up

If you really like low bass though then tune it 30-35. This is where I was the happiest at so it might work for you aswell
