Eclipse Sub......a few questions

I havent posted here in forever but I figured this would be the best place to do research as opposed to going into the local car stereo shop with people who have no idea what they're talking about.

Anyway, I just purchased an Eclipse 88100ti last night. Its brand new never installed and has never seen power, it was a deal I couldnt pass up. I dont have any info on it though. The guy i bought it from didn't have any info in the box. From what i've read online I think it's a dual 3ohm, correct?

So here are some questions.....

if its a dual 3ohm, i can run either a 1.5 or 6 ohm load right?

if I run 1.5ohm's then I would need an amp thats 1ohm stable correct?

What are some good 1ohm stable amps? Sundown, SS, AQ, ...? am I on the right track?

Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks in advance.

Ok guys....after a week of research I think i'm more confused than I was to start. Help me pick an amp. The sub is rated at 750rms but i know people put alot more to these subs so i'm looking amps that are around 1000-1500.

Here is what i'm looking at....

Audioque 1200d

MB Quart 1500.1d

Sundown 1200

Soundstream REF1.1000d

Nakamichi PA-1500

Help me narrow it down please. Thoughts? Opinions? First hand Experience?

Thank you

Just flip a coin, you've already narrowed it down to a good selection

If your going to get a sundown amp though skip the 1200 and just go for the 1500. It's their flagship amp and is one of the best mono amps I've ever owned

Great driver btw, I've had a few of those Ti's and I'm still using a 15" for HT purposes. Throw 1000w at it in a nice ported box to your liking and be prepared to enjoy music again. Suprising to see a shop that still has one of those ti's though, especially the older 8 series. Is there any sag on the spider?

Not that I can tell. Its never seen power and its never been mounted. I just talked to a shop that use to sell them and the guy said they're dual 4 ohm voice coils. online says theyre dual 3's. Any body have a conformation either way?

You can buy a cheap ass dmm and find out for sure.

Each coil should measure 3.1 - 3.2. It's completely normal for a 4 ohm coil to have an Re ranging anywhere from 2.8 to 3.4 ohms. Go to Madisound's website or any other hobbyist outlet and check out the Re for all the 4 ohm drivers. Just treat the driver as a D4 and be done with it. An amplifier that's rated for a 2 ohm load isn't going to be bothered by the 1.5-ish Re that those coils wire down to.

Do treat like a dual 4 ohm. They were also sw9102 with same basic design. In the sw line they rated them at dual 4, but they were still dual 3.1. I am running two in the front of a Porsche Speedster. My feet get numb after a while and they are only seeing around 500 watts. These are the only subs I found that will get close to a w7 for sql. W7 enclosure recommendations match up well. Just remember JL recommends too small of a box so always go bigger if you have the room. Sealed 1.5 or ported 2.0 is a good start. If not you will not get as good of low bass response. JL designs their enclosures for maximum spl. Yet they try to base their product line on sq. Go figure?

Thank you. That was just the info I was looking for. Turns out my friend's older brother use to work for tc sounds and they desigend this driver so I'm going to talk to him about building me a box. Now I just need to find a nice amp that'll do 1000+rms @ 2ohms.

I used to own a Ti 15 several years ago, though I don't remember which one it was. Whichever model is the older one, I believe I bought it in 2002.

I used an orion xtrpro2400 to power it and I believe it was rated at 750 watts also. So they definitely can take alot more power than rated.

I loved that sub and almost bnought one again recently but decided to go instead with the boston spg555.

As you've already said, 1000 plus at 2 ohms and enjoy!! Mine was sealed though and I seem to remember that they were recomended to be run in sealed boxes.
