I just bought a used Eclipse 55040 (no manual) and was woundering if its like the 8454 HU where you can run an active setup component system through the

x-over points that the HU offers?

I have these left over from my main install:

4 channel amp 4X100rms @ 4ohms

1 set of MB Quartz tweeters

1 set of RE XXX 6.5" mids

1 set of JL xr x-overs (I don't plan to use though...I want active)

NO SUBWOOFER just door speakers

To run these components in an 2-way active X-over setup in my work car, what else do I need? I would like the x-over point to be around 4K.

Nope. You would need to buy an external active crossover.

Though I think you picked the wrong mid if you want it to play up to 4khz.......

Thanks for the info on the Hu, as for the Re XXX 6.5" mid I talked to Scotty Bahler at RE and he said it'll play up to 7Khz (on-axis) and up to 3Khz (off-axis). The news about my eclipse 55040 is a setback though:crap: . I may just try the RE mid and MB tweeter with the extra JL x-over I have laying around or sell it all.

Anybody know the x-over point on the Jl xr cross over?

They might play that high.

But they haven't been getting the best reviews for anything over 1khz.

You couldn't use your setup with those anyways, seeing as how the XXX mid is 2ohm and that passive was probably designed for a 4ohm mid.

Okay....well, technically you could do it. I wouldn't expect the greatest results, however.

x2 just because it can play that high doesnt mean it'll sound good doing it. Also from the sets I've heard, the higher you play the XXX's the weaker the output is on the low end.I personally dont care for that mid in a 2way setup, and i've heard them with horns- keep that in mind, as you'll have large void in your freq range.

By using a xover with values for 4ohm speaker, the 8ohm mid will see a xover freq value half that of intended value.

...considering all of this was just an afterthought install on my work car with the left over parts from my main install, you will polly see it posted in the sale section soon. I just don't feel like spending the additional money to make it work.
