Eclipse 55040 & active x-over comps???

I just bought a used Eclipse 55040 (no manual) and was woundering if its like the 8454 HU where you can run an active setup component system through the

x-over points that the HU offers?

I have these left over from my main install:

4 channel amp 4X100rms @ 4ohms

1 set of MB Quartz tweeters

1 set of RE XXX 6.5" mids

1 set of JL xr x-overs (I don't plan to use though...I want active)

NO SUBWOOFER just door speakers

To run these components in an 2-way active X-over setup in my work car, what else do I need? I would like the x-over point to be around 4K.

That is a pretty old model. It seems like it was from around 99. They didn't have any built in crossovers but you can purchase the external dsp. It runs via the lan system and gives you quite a bit of crossover flexibility. One model, (I can't recall which one) even matched and exceeded any current eclipse HU. It had optional modules that plugged in for added crossover frequencies. I think up to fifteen parametric settings per channel. Go to eclipse web page and get a contact number for eclipse. They can give you the model numbers that were produced and possibly a some retailers that may still have one for sell. Occassionaly you see them on ebay.

Thanks mike, I picked it up for $80 bucks shipped and have plans to stick it in my work car w/ an old school Sherwood 4X100rms amp and some used Diamond Audio 6.5" M3series coaxils. Something to play with now that my main install is done on my other car. In this whole setup I have $200 for everything.

you will like the deck. I owned the 54430 five volt that came out that year. In my opinion, they were the best looking eclipse decks. The display seemed to be easier to read than the previous models as well. The only thing that has kept me from purchasing one of those over my 8455 is the aux and mp3. The other problem was that those models are picky about cdr's. If I recall, they do not like memorex or ivation. I used alot of fuji's.
