Eclipse 3100 to Alpine 9886

After some problems with trying to get the Eclipse to fit in my dash with the Ipod cable plugged in I'm going to return it and try the Alpine CDA-9886 for $80 more. Would there be much difference between the 2?. I've had Eclipse years ago and really liked them but i'm not too crazy about the new one. I even called Eclipse about it and they didnt seem to give a **** at all.

I was looking at the 9887 for $180 more and not have to worry about getting an EQ down the road plus I dont have much room for one.
