When sellers list items on ebay as brand new, how often do you think it really is brand new and not a refurb? Im about to buy an alpine 9886 and they can be had all over ebay for 230 shipped, which sounds better than my local shop 330 after tax. is there any reason not to do it?

As long as this world exists, anything is possible.

Just research the seller, check feedback..talk to people he's dealt with...and get some insight on his dealings first.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

always run a chance of refurb with electronics via ebay. its the no warranty dealy i worry about the most. but sometimes for the right price i would buy sh!t and just use it till it blows up. but everyones gotta make there own decision.

what? refurbs almost always have a factory warranty if they were actually done by the manufacturer. sometimes they "refurbished" parts that don't even affect actual performance. they also test to make sure it works. i find nothing wrong with refurbs.

ebay gives warranty on electronics up to the price of purchase and for a small percentage of the price. I ordered a JBL p1222 and a GTO 1201.1 amp and have a warranty on both of them. Its not BY ebay but by a 3rd party, Square Trade. They give you a 3 year warranty.

My warranty summery for the p1222:

Warranty Price: $17.99

Coverage: 3 years

Item: Car Speakers

Coverage Amount: $149.00

Start: 8/8/08

End: 8/7/11

for you guys that said they have blemishes a lot and/or have messed up on you, were they advertised as brand new in box? especially when they say its not a refurb?

My iPod was a refurbed, and I got the extended warranty on it... and I'm glad I did. Every few months I'd have to take it in. I never dropped it, sat on it... or anything. It was always in my backpack, in a leather case [that was actually for my phone, but my iPod fit] and would stay to the side most of the time.

Either the HD couldn't be read, or the battery got disconnected... and this one time, I was surprised as hell and I can't, to this day, explain it... the battery could only be charged by the wall charger. If I plugged it into the computer, the battery would INSTANTLY be drained. If it was charging all night, and I plugged it in, you'd hear the beep from the computer reading it, then the beep saying it was disconnected. I'd take it out, look, and it had the dead battery sign... I'd wait, and try an hour or two later and the same. I'd begin to charge it through the wall, and it'd start from zero. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Cliff notes:

* iPod was refurbed

* Treated it well

* Always had to take it in (thankfully had warranty)

* Very confusing hardware problems

most of the refurbished stuff...is usually scratched or dented up that i've seen on ebay...i've never seen any that looks new...thats for sure
Bought a refurb pioneer h/u ( deh-p4900ib) nice price. looked brand new with all accesories and harnesses. working great for about 2 months. still going strong.
