ebay question

[noob with an RS 10+ year member]

a couple days ago i was bidding on an MTX amp that had a reserve. the auction ended and the reserve price was never met. i e-mailed him immediately and made him another offer.. 85 dollars shipped. he agreed and told me to send the paypal payment. what im wondering is cant he just walk off with the money and not send me anything since the ebay auction ended and no one technically won it? i emailed him bacc and asked him to put the item bacc on ebay so i could commit to buy it and have a contract to bac me up that i bought it. sound good? or is that unnecessary?

what is the difference between going around ebay and buying off here? same thing send money to someone off here and they can walk away. When buying off a ebay auction and using paypal to pay at least if you get screwed ebay will cover the money up to 200 minus a 25.00 fee.

PayPal insures buys of up to $500. However, in order for this to work, you will need to have papers mailed to him (or emails and have him print them out) and have him sign saying you are entering a legally binding agreement in which you will send money and he will send an amplifier. Have everything done on paper, in case something does happen, you have proof that a deal was made. In most cases, online transactions are not settled because there is a lack of evidence for the case, because communication is done through email and other ways that are not legally binding and that are not saved/printed out. Keep track of whats going on...

Easiest thing to do is have him relist the item though, and just use a Buy It Now.

dude if you dont know what the situation was dont make stuff up, I recieve the cellphone and it was in horrible condition, the pics that the guy put wasnt it, plus ebay contacted me saying he cancelled his account and his paypal acct as well
