Whats your feeling on eBay shipping?

I bought an Alpine cord I needed to wire my Alpine 400BT to my 9887. I was charged $7.38 for shipping, but the guy crammed it into a $2.85 envelope. In cases like this should a refund be issued for overages on shipping charges?

I think they should, but how many people actually pay attention to this stuff?

The shipping is listed with the auction. When you bid or Buy it now you agree to their shipping fee. This is just a lesson learned. Pay more attention to the auction listing before committing to buy.

I agree with both of you yes the shipping is posted but at the same time you expect to be shipped to you in something that is worth paying the shipping. I dont see where they come up with there shipping prices. I sent a full set of components, with tweets and crossovers with 10ft of 2/0 welding wire from KY to CA and it was a flat rate of 14 dollars. That was shockly cheap in my opinion.

you could leave him bad feedback but i'd suggest contacting him first.....

however you agreed to pay that, so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif . On the other hand, when I sell stuff I usually use the ebay shipping calculator and 90% of the time it undercharges the customer and I get boned out of a few bucks on shipping charges.

I am aware its listed with the auction. Im also aware that if I charge someone $8 for shipping they should get $8 worth of shipping, not a $1 bubble mailer and a stamp to try and make money off of the shipping.

Already did contact the seller about it.

i always look for free shippin //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I normally do as well, but all the items with free shipping were considerably more expensive than the one I ended up winning.

i look for free shipping to but if you are not carefull you can buy something without free shipping cheaper then you can buy something with free shipping. Most of them jack there price up when its free shipping. LOL

i do like a hour of searching to make sure i find the cheapist to save a buck or 2 lol its hard out here when people dont want to hire a minor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i sell on ebay think about it you need to buy something to pack it with then drive to post office sometimes it takes 40 mins to do so theres more to shipping then just what the post office charges you ,if you dont like the price then buy else where .but if it says Priority Mail and he used a stamp thats when you have the right to leave bad feedback.

His response to me was:

OK....Lets see if the tracking number (not free), package (not free) and gas (not free)...Plus the time I waited in line at the Post office instead of being with my prego wife makes up for that...... After all my years I have never had this dumb of a question. You saved a bunch of cash on that item and you hit me with that...WOW. Happy Holidays....I worked it out and you owe me $.77 cents that I paid more to get that off to you...WOW... The nerve of you ...LOL
EBay TOS:

If the shipping costs seem too high, contact the seller before you bid on or buy the item to see if you can work out a more reasonable amount.
Tip: Use our Shipping Calculator to estimate a fair price for shipping.

Also, keep in mind that sellers aren't allowed to charge a separate fee for things like insurance, mileage, time spent at a shipping carrier, employee wages, or eBay and PayPal fees. See the shipping and handling costs section of our selling practices policy for more information.

If a seller is breaking the rules, report it to us.
FWIW I dont plan on doing anything with this. I just wanted to see general opinions of the forum.

you could report the item for having an unusually high shipping cost. Ebay doesn't charge sellers fees on the shipping, just the price of the item itself, so sellers will have lower prices and higher shipping to increase their net profit. Once reported, ebay will slap them on the wrist and tell them to fix it. Guy seems like kind of a **** with that response and maybe deserves whatever slap on the wrist ebay throws his way.

It wasn't a separate fee (gas, packaging, time, etc.), it was included in his shipping cost that you agreed to. You basically have nothing to complain about.

Thats the point. It was included, yet eBay specifically states you arent allowed to charge for those.
